I'm running it under DosBOX. The error mostly occurs while playing chieftain level but does occur in higher levels too. Dowloaded v5 Patch.

Still a great game. Just gets annoying if I haven't saved for a while and the game freezes.

Civ has autosave

Hi All

Just wanted to introduce myself as I just found this board and I am a big Civ fanatic and strategy war gamer....Civ is one of the all time greats of course in the true strategy genre, nnot just a click fast game like the modern day RTS game imposters.

Wow so we are actually up to Civ IV guys...hope its ok if I just mae a couple brief comments on that version. Its still crying for tactical combat, and I wish they had a larger map editor, I devot hours to a good Civ game, n I want room to grow lol, current map editor for Civ 4 is too limmited on number of bit spaces.....I want a gigantic map, but Sid keeps ignoring my spamming him, lol (imagine that).

Say just wanted to mention to, if you love this one, you will surely love Master of Magic which as I understand was programmed by Sid Meir too. Its a Civ clone with tactical combat, fantasy setting, and heroes to hire.

Yeah the fantasy thing turns some gamers off, as they prefer the real and mundane sand sci-fi aspects of Civ.

Hehe, that's what i was about to whine about, too
tried running in dosmode, dosbox, winxp with and without compatibility settings.
loading a previous savegame does not help, since it just freezes at the exact same time (after building something, then clicking change).
it can only be helped by NOT building that exact building in that exact city.
and: that sucks

Any ideas on how to solve that problem?

I never encountered this problem AFAIK...
Until recently I had a separate DOS boot on my laptop so maybe that's why.
You can get freeware (or at least freely downloadable) virtual machines now so you may be able to run a 'real' DOS install from a USB key/small partition.

It is certainly FAR easier to setup DOSBox and change setup etc. but it still isn't perfect. If you still have your old DOS install discs, though they are probably available online, you should be able to get this running nicely.
Maybe that should be my next project...

You can't download those with the 'ESA' protected icon. CIV1 isn't downloadable.
Buy it.

I'm a "visuallu impaired" veteran with limited access to get out & go so I NEED ... BRAIN EXERCISE. I had "CIV" on my olf 386 but THAT died a couple of yeaRS AGO. i GOT A "NEW" xp COMPUTER THROUGH THE va BUT i CAN'T FIND A COPY OV "civilization" anywhere! a FRIEND TOLD ME i COULD dOWNlOAD A COPY here BUT >>> APPEARANTLY not.

cAN anyone PLEASE HELP? i HAVE ONLY LIMITED/FIXED INCOME BUT i CAN PAY $5 OR $10 BUCKS IF i HAVE TO.
