![]() I meant it that way, some people would be lost without the religon, they need it as a moral guide, to make life more sane, but some people are religious because they were thought to(most of people IMO)...

![]() Everybody always needed religion as a moral guide.
People needs laws and laws are based on religious morals : DO not kill do not steal ....ring any bells? People wont get lost without religion ,religion makes its efect when u need it the most when u are down it helps u look up it gives u hope thats why religion in the civilized world is losing its emphasis while in arab countries and places likes brazil its gaining emphasis coz life is harder there and people tend to recomfort themselves in religion.but i agree with u when u say Brainwash gives religion a bad name but that souldn't keep u away from ur religion. |

![]() Sure, Christianity has a lot of followers who are hypocrites, but that doesn't mean the religion itself is bad. The Bible can't be taken as fact word for word, but a lot of the philosophy in the Bible is rather harmless.
Take into consideration the Ten Commandments. The first three Commandments are religious rules, but the next seven are basic moral principles. It seems that people don't mind following these seven with the exception of the adultery commandment, however. If the other six are good concepts, why not the adultery commandment? |

![]() Because a large amount of the people that exist in this world are short sighted and opinionated.

You must know however that there were laws writen long before the ten commandments and they were saying basically the same thing (except those three laws that are about the worshiping of God). |

![]() Have you really read the New Testament, Stroggy? Or just read about it. I'm surprised you could read it and not be moved in some way. When you read about Him, you get the strong feeling that not only is He the most remarkable person ever to have lived, but if you ever met Him, he would look at you with respect and He would love you. Because that's the way He lived His life. He would show any of us genuine love....something some of us have never received. He was/is a geniune, loving person. He's something great to focus on when all the world seems crazy and there's not a friend to be found. And so is Yahwey, too. I think the two go hand-in-hand. He loved the Father very much. And the Father loved Him, saying: This is my beloved son in whom I am well-pleased.

![]() I'm not trying to disagree with you Wendy, but I have to answer to that one.
There is a big difference if a christian reads the Bible or if a non-christian reads the Bible. I've read it, but since I'm an atheist I had a different attitude towards it. I did not pre-supose that it's a book of ultimate wisdom and love. There was no additional emotional charge for me in this book. I read it as though I wold the fables of Ezop (not sure about the spelling). the Bible is an importaint book, but as I said I read it as every other book I read. I read the words and sentances, thought about their meaning (dissagreed at some - and agreed at other poiint) and made up my mind about it - it did not convince me - nor convert me. The only thing I really found out is, that christians usually can't/don't follow the bible, or if the do, they do it leterary, which makes even more damage. The book has multiple meanings - depending on ones interpretation - and can thus be (and was) abused. That's just me though - others would probably feel something else. |
