![]() What amazes me, in these days of broadband, I do not understand why we do not have on games like this one the floppy version download (which is the one here) AND the CD version with speech. Yes, the latter would be a 200+mb download, but even on a 256k broadband that is managable. If you only have dialup the 11mb floppy is a sizable download in it's own right, so you'd be happy with that anyway.
I have the same problem with the original Jagged Alliance. Every site just has the floppy version for download with no speech, and yet the reviews of the same game (even on the same site!) they always talk about the great speech in the game in the review. Abandonia, how about you being the first site that offers the floppy AND the CD version (where different) on games like Star Trail and Jagged Alliance? |

So the sizes of download are not to ensure you could download quickly, but to ensure we don't run out of space too soon. The general policy is - no updates bigger then 100MB and even those are extremely rare (anything bigger then 50MB should get special confirmation by the site's owner). |

![]() That's a cop out. There are just not enough games like that out there, where the floppy version is there, but the CD one isn't. And the reason I said why not be the first, was because nearly all the games on this site are available elsewhere and links are available, so to say "we have the CD version of this, but due to server space there are some other games we might not have, but we are confident 100 other sites have it for download" would be an easy step. It would also be possible. I am sure. to take a few of the less downloaded games off for 6 months while the CD version was up, and then see how the server changes. Was the 200mb causing more problems than the lesser downloaded games were doing? Was it a big difference? The other point is I am guessing at 200mb. It might be under 100mb. Plenty of older CD games with speech are under 100mb, even while some are 300mb.
Underdogs makes big files available from them but through bitorrent. Some sites break down a big download in to smaller indivual downloads, a) to make it easier for people with slower connections, but also B) as it spreads the server workload. And while I might be able to find Star Trail on ebay or somewhere, I have been looking for the original CD version of Jagged Alliance for 3 years now and ever since the release of Jagged Alliance 2, it has fallen off the face of the Earth! I am much more interested when I hear "we tried that, but it didn't work", but in the world today I am getting a little fed up with "haven't tried it, but I am sure it wouldn't work". |

![]() Well, you could propose that to Kosta, he's the owner of the side eventhough he doesn't seem to do much here.

It's like telling one store - be the first to have this really expensive junk and get rid of everything else. If people come for other stuff you can send them to other stores, you'll still have that one big piece to sell to people who're interested. Why on Earth should we take games down, just so we could have one or two large files??? Doesn't make sense. If you simply want the full version - get it. We don't have it on the site and you obviously know many other sites (you even mentioned a few), so talk to them. |

![]() Heck, if you have broadband - install eMule and search for Star Trail in the Kademlia network.
Easy way to get large - and often also rare - stuff. |

![]() If it was, I'd been banned a long time ago.
It's only been yesterday when I have obtained the CD version of Flashback through the network - and that one isn't so popular, oh no. |

![]() Hello all. I've also been having problems getting this game to run. But i think i've fixed it now following some of the suggestions here.
Anyway as a longtime fan of the first game in the series(oh those amiga days Anyway looking at the many posts about memmory error messages that people were getting, and having the same errors whenever i launched 'star.exe', i thought i'd provide some more help on that subject. I guess this might be useful for non-XP(and non DOSBOX) users like myself. After killing my computer for a short while after messing around with my Config.sys and Autoexec files trying to resolve the memmory error messages, i did finaly manage to find the EATXMS.EXE file that had been discussed here. You can find it on this site, along with lots of usefull info on running old games: http://www.oldskool.org/guides/oldonnew/resources the way i resolved the problem was to use a boot-disk(the one available on this site in the utilities section worked fine for the experiment) then after booting with that disk i went into the EATXMS folder in DOS and typed: eatxms 32000 followed by enter, which lost me 32MB of my memmory, which in turn enabled me to launch the game from its folder by typing: star followed by enter. The PC i was running it on is a P166 with 48MB ram and win98se(my 'old game' pc). the command 'eatxms 32000' made sure i was running around the 16MB memmory limit the game needs to run and will need to be adjusted depending on the ammount of memmory you may have in your machine. e.g If you have 128MB of memmory you would use 'eatxms 112000' (112,000KB)or something like that, you may have to experiment untill you see the title screen. Now the next issue i have is trying to work out why i seem to start 15-20 days into the game, with no clear option to re-start from the begining of the game with my own characters. Anyway i hope this helps some of the people trying to run this game that were having the annoying: 'Star-Trail needs xxxxxxxx ammount of EMS+XMS memmory, and you only have xxxxxxxxxxxx(a bigger number!) available' type error messages. In the meantime i'm starting out in the first game in the series(which has all the music and seems to be the full game - excellent!). |

All you need to do is to save a game on your own and the lastgame. will be modified to load your game everytime. And when not, remove the write-only attribute from it (right-click...), then save your game. |
