Well - it's not something you could play anytime, but yes - our computer room is the favourite place in our school (ever since I came to work there).
There are only two teachers that actually know how to use a computer (many have it simply as a typing machine) and I'm one of those two, the other one is the administrator.

So the kids are really fond of me! I even got two bottles of wine from the kids I teach for the new year. their own homemade. I work in a part of Slovenia where there are many vinyards.

I alos infected them with playing Magic the Gathering (the real cards - online game would slow our connection - the school still uses a modem). And for the new years party a dozen older kids didn't want to go to the school dance - so I played them the movie "The Shining" with Jack Nicholson instead!

We also make school movies - the forst one should be a horror movie (but the parents would have objected, so we only have a few such scenes - like a girl killing her friend with a brick... :evil: ).

I bet you'd love it at our school!!!

Yes...

Just pure innocent Slovenian fun; celebrating the new year by watching horror movies, little girls cracking her friends' skulls open, and using kids as dealers in a free distribution of alcohol.

Sounds like a great school k:

Right on!
Well the traditional aproach was even worse...

But the thing is - if the children are interested in such things (death, horror, alchohol, drugs, sex,...) - and they are!!! People should give them guidence!!!

If I can engage them in a conversation, make sure they see it as a thing that's braking taboos and so on... then it's OK.

You must know that Sloveina is very hipocritical. Their parents will watch some polka singers (4 young girls in mini skirts with very low cut shitrs) and enjoy the "culture", but if a child watches Britney on MTV - it's pornography!!!
A child helps out while they bring a bull to a cow in order to have little calfs, but if he looks at a cover of a dirty magazine at a news stand - it's outrage!!!
A father sends his 10 year old son to bring him cigarettes and bottle of wine and it's OK, but is a 16 year old shares a beer with a friend it's a CRIME!!!
If kids come home from school with bleeding noses - it's just boys at play - growing up. But if they watch a wrestling match it's VIOLENCE!!!
Kids help their parents kill moles with shovles, because they cause havoc in the garden, but when they watch Horror movies it's BLOODSHEAD.
Kids shoot at hawks with sporting rifles to protect the chicken they have at home, but if they play Duke Nuem it's MURDER.

So I'm fighting it the best way I can - by hitting taboos strait on. Now children at least know:
-homosexuality isn't a disease or some devil's plot to ruin the humanity;
-sex is a natural thing, that all think about, but only do it, when the conditions are right (so not forcing someone into it - no rape, a husband doesn't have the right to demand sex from wife, it's better to hire a hooker then to rape a girl, if you decide to do it, be mature about it and use protection - many people aged around 15 and 16 are afraid to get a condom, because if someone saw them get one, they'd be in trouble, so couples go to a hidden place and lose virignity, but don't use protection,...);
-animals are not put on Earth for the amusemant of humans;
-torture is bad and should be prevented;
-if you decide to get drunk or high - DON'T (but if you really must, don't run off to a hidden place where no one cen find you and help you in case of any trouble);

Basically I'm teaching them the way of life.
It's things they'll come across anyway - and some will try them no matter what anyone says. So it's better they're informed and won't do anything worse, because some things are bad enough.
On the other hand they know they can talk freely to me and they won't get in trouble, nor will I give them some empty phrases as an answer. I'll listen to them and give them sound advice based on my own experiance (or tell them why I decided not to try something and why I have no experaince with some things).
So if a parent tells them - I don't want to see you drunk - or you'll get it (parents still beat their children in some cases) - a child will only know he musn't get cought (and sees the parent drinking anyway).
But if I talk to them we really have a converstion in which they get an explenation of why people drink, which positive effects it has, which negative effects it has, what the dangers are, how does it feel to bu drunk, how do you know when you had enough, which different drinks there are and what are the effects (you can have three shots of vodka within one minute before feeling drunk, but when they hit - you can be out cold; while on the other hand you can't drink two beers so fast, because the quanitity is bigger and the alchohol level is lower, so you'll be able to feel how drunk you are) and so on!

OK - I know it's a bit off topic, but I had to give this reply!

Seba,
I understand what taboo can do and how many taboos we had back there.

I still have a lot of youngers asking me questions that they can't ask their parents, as most of questions would freak them out. It is important for kids to have someone they can trust and they can ask for opinion.

Well, my country is one of these where I was able to buy beer at age of 5. (I actualy started to go out in the bars at age of 13 , at the age of 16 I was already 'old man')

Those were the days my friend,
let's hope they never end...

@punch:
Yes - it's better to cheat on your wife then to rape her! The best way would be neither of those, but if those were the only two choices - cheat!!!

And how do you know when you have enough - well many people do dumb things mostly because of peer preassure. It's best not to yeil to that preassure, but if you do (most people do at some point) you must know how to stop yourself!
