As short as this advise might appear, I generally would suggest the same. While you still have good chances to get old Dos games to run in Windows XP, Windows Vista is much worse in these ways which is why you probably would like to consider to install Windows XP on your computer instead of Vista.

If it's your main computer and it can handle Vista, I'd say set up both Vista and XP.

btw: vista detects that there is presence of any other OS than vista (and it checks bios too), but i dont know the consequences

I honnestly see no reason to dual boot Vista-XP for a dosgame.
Dosbox 0.72 works perfect in Vista (32-64bit).
