Another walkthrough: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/dark-hal...ts/hintId,1370/
The game froze for me at the "Meanwhile" part if I had the speed set too low. |

Um, not to offend, since most people don't read the review anyway, but you HAVE to run the batch file DH not Dark Half.
The file named DH.

Game froze with me as well at the "Meanwhile" screen with DosBox, so I played most of the game by just clicking on the DH.bat file. When I had trouble with some scenes that way, I went back to DosBox, though I had other freezes with DosBox in other places as well. I have Windows ME.

BTW - www.gamewinners.com (where the walkthrough is posted), does an idiodic thing - in my opinion. They dont allow you to save the page in .txt format. If you do, you only get their stupid little tag "GameWinners_com - Cheats, codes, and strategy guides" when you open the saved .txt file.
You will need to copy/paste the text into notepad or word. PS. Stick with moby. They dont play tricks with your head... |

If the game freezes in DOSBox, try to run SETSOUND.BAT in Windows outside of DOSBox and choose Sound Blaster or SoundBlaster Pro in Midi Driver Selection Menu and Sound Blaster 16 in Sound Capabilities. You should also run sblaster.com before starting the game. You can run darkhalf.bat to see intro and dh.bat for the game without intro.

Hey guys. After reading the thread and experiencing similar problems I gave the game another go. See if this works:
After downloading the game, Unzip it and look in the folder. Find the 'sblaster' MS-DOS Application and place it into a New folder (so as to get rid of it). Find the 'DRIVERS' folder, open it up and find the 'SBLASTER' MS-DOS Application, place this in the main folder (in effect you replace the unwanted 'sblaster' with 'SBLASTER'). That's it! I ran it through DosBOX by typing 'DARKHALF'; music and digitised speech worked fine, just had to bring the cycles down to play it at the right speed. Hope this helps. |
