I still think it's not an acceptable.
Sorry to say this, but if you can afford a computer you aren't exactly starving. You obviously have a place where you are staying, are able to pay for the electric bills and can own a computer. That does not qualify you as a poor person - not rich (definatly not rich), but not poor either.
The problem in such countries is, that games cost too much. The market for games is small so the price is high. Because of that no one will buy the game, so they will sell even less and would raise the prices.
I bet if companies would lower the prices to something reasonable (you can buy games in stores in Slovenia and pay for them as much as you would for 2-3 beers in a pub). That might change something.
I'm sick of trying to depict the situation in my country, but put yourself in this situation:
You have a salary of 150 bucks. You have a computer, house, etc.The house was bought by your parents. You barely managed to buy a computer.A game in my country costs from 100-200 bucks. Now i'm asking you would you pay all your money for a game?!
No the game doesn't feed you, it doesn't pay the rent, it is not there when you are pawning your favorite necklace to go to the disco on saturday. So please don't tell me what is acceptable and what is not when you haven't been were i have been!
I agree warez is stealing but we don't have a choice.Sure if i lived at a villa, and my parents were driving a bmw, then i would buy every game.
Consider this discussion over.Any other remarks will be sent to my PM.This has gone off topic long enough!

I'm not trying to flame anyone, i'm just sick of this discussion.

Hey you live in Slovenia, and I see you do many reviews and upload many games to Abandonia, and tell me did you buy those games, legally??
I'm not sure how things are there but AFAIK here in Croatia, the first law against computer piracy was made in 95', and in ex-yu there was no copyright, the only way to acquire games was through illegal channels, the first time that a computer pirate was sankcioned was in 98' or something, so I guess that's a reason why many people (even the wealthy ones), buy pirated games.
I'm not saying that piracy is good, it's wrong but technically(your Mercedes theory), would mean that Abandonia is also pirating games.
Heh I go to economy high school, I know what profit margins are, and I know how much $$, CEO's and managers make, and how much the programmers are paid.

This discussion may be OT, but it's keeping this topic from not sinking.

The situation in Slovenia is quite similar to those in Croatia.

You must know one other thing - I'm not saying DON'T DO IT (I have things I haven't bought either). But I'm not looking for excuses saying - it's OK to use illegal things because off whatever reason one might give.

Using illegal programs is illegal and hurts the industry - and gamers!

And every time I do it I know I'm doing something wrong. I'm not looking for excuses I accept the fact that I brake laws. Why can't you?
No one is saying you mustn't use sites and sources that distribute illegal stuff (abandonia isn't one of them - it's a border line case not illegal), but I'm saying - don't look for excuses. If you use them you're braking the law - so live with that. If your feel guilty about it then stop doing it, if you don't feel guilty stop trying to say you're not doing something wrong!

Hey, what's wrong with getting games if you really can't get them somewhere else? Somewhere they're offered for download, and it's possible to get them. It's not like the games pirating started to exist just the last past days, you know. Just don't let yourself get caught, then you're safe.
Anyway, I prefer to buy the new games. It's just a better feeling if you get the game with the manual and package and all. It weighs much more than if you would just get it on the net.

Well this discussion was started with Titan's post, he was reffering to Omuletzu, but I felt as he was reffering to me too, and it seems to you...(Sebatianos)

Well if not having enough money is an excuse to obtain games illegally, I'm off to steal a Mercedes Benz (thanks for the suggestion Seb). LOL

If I don't have the money for new games I do what most of you seem to think is impossible - I go without them. :w00t:

I have never (knowingly) downloaded or obtained an illegal copy of a game that was still being sold! Most of the games I own I bought three or four years after they came out, when they cost less or I buy them secondhand from ebay and other places and if I don't have enough money I just don't have the games.

I will admit though that I'm coming from a western european perspective and I'm prepared to accept that things may be slightly different in other areas of the world. However, it's something you should think about!
