The original, indian tobacco in the 1400-1500's was free of chemicals and other stuff. The cigar only consisted of a dryed tobacco leaf and some coconut substance to keep it together... No tar, no paper, no active-coal, no nothing... Furthermore, cigar in those times were very expensive and only the richest could buy them. They was only smoking it at celebrations and such and never got addicted... And that cigar in low quantities didn't caused cancer and such either... <_<

But now, it is a daily habit for almost 1/3 of earth's population in some form...

I have another thing here: My friend work in a paper mill, and he is very proficient in the paper industry. He said that the cigarette paper is no ordenary paper. It contains calcium and nitrogen fosfat(If I recall correctly) for a slow but continuous burn of the cigarette. Some more chemicals to poison you even further... <_<

Nah, my health teacher told us it was nicotine. Did you know that caffeine is the 23d most addictive substance or something? Heroin is further down the list.

i think the difference is when you quit heroin you can go down the pub and not have to see people jacking it. i have heard scientists on tv saying heroin is harder to quit short term, well duh but nicotine in the long term is harder.

I know. Pretty much everyone over here in the Netherlands is utterly addicted to the stuff

About smoking. Many people around here do it, however I have the feeling people (or the people I know) put more thought into it then a few years ago. Most of them either decided to quit or decided to keep on doing it.
At least that's an improvement.

You take Heroin in very small amounts but the purity is high, pure nicotine may be very addictive but the actual quantity of nicotine in cigarettes is very low indeed. Also, the addiction to nicotine is all mental while you can become physically addicted to heroin and other hard drugs (so your body craves it as well as the mind), this is why all drugs are dangerous but hard drugs are more dangerous than softer ones (such as tobbaco).

Good, that's an excellent start.

Herion is very, very addictive stuff, but that's really because of the brain's reception to it more than anything else.

Nicotine is very addictive too.

By the way, does anybody know anywhere else out of the UK and South Africa where Cocodomol (that's bad spelling, but I'm not sure of its real name) is allowed to be taken in headache pills without prescription?

i know you cant even get it in eastern europe without a prescription. which is a shame...
and the dose of codine in the uk is pretty small in the non prescittion stuff.
ahh well im failing miserably on quittin the fags, however i have only got enought baccy 4 maybe 4 ciggeretes and the womens hidden my plastic so i cant actually buy anymore. why cant you buy willpower in a pill form?
