I think you absolutly need "fluctuating economy" as option to see this happen. It's a both way luck you see, it's always frustrating to see your best industry reduced to 1/4 initial production (or close!) too... As they say in English, muck happen...

what service pack/processor/ram/video card do you have? you can get most of this info from control panel->system menu. without this information it's hard to help, because for example I have XP, and it works flawlessly for me.

That's really not the right thread to talk about this. You should try to post something at the troubleshooting forum instead.

After trying it out a couple of times (I'm a beginner) I have to say you guys are crazy. I didn't think it was going to be too tough, but I'm really going to have to get to know all the tricks well to do it before 1995.
I was wondering, do you guys have to reload if any industries lose productivity and save as soon as they get better?
Otherwise I tend to have industries losing production rather than gaining it.

No, I never "reloaded". I hardly ever save anyways (I have autosave on if it crash)! When I aim for a record I try to play several hours straight. I found that it helps me a lot not to forget important events or to forget what I was doing when I stopped playing and thus not lose several years worth of the game trying to get the "engine" running back at full speed...

That's really impressive then. I haven't tried on easy yet but I don't think it will be too hard to get 100Mil by about 1990 on easy, but right now I am no way near on difficult.

If you look at the first post with the table, you'll see that Planecrash earned 200,000,000$ by 1997. That is impressive, my friend...

Still wondering how he managed to do that...

If you look at the screenshot it is actually 16 Jan 1999 and not 16 Jan 1997.

Also, I think difficulty setting matters a lot. For difficult the increased cost of building slows down income growth especially at the start and fewer industries make a big difference at the end.
