Not having any luck getting this to work in Win10. Any ideas?
via dosbox it says it needs to be run in Windows. When trying to run in Win10 (with compatability set to Win95 / reduced colors), it says it can't run on "this PC". |

You can setup Windows 3.x to run inside DOSBox and run the game in Windows 3.x.
I think this forum has (or had?) a Windows 3.1 installation zip-archive ready to be run in DOSBox available somewhere...

One follow up question... It seems this game runs in a very small square of the screen. Windows 3.1 runs I guess as expected within a full screen dosbox (black sides but I expect that since Windows 3.1 was used on square screens). However once Dr Brain is launched, its a much smaller subset inside Win 3.1. A smaller square within the Win3.1 square. Black all around, so it still seems like it's "full screen". Is this just how the game was made? or is there a way to expand it? |

It's probably just how the game was made. If the game uses a smaller resolution than the Windows desktop then it adds those black areas.
Maybe there's a way to increase the game's resolution? I doubt it has any option to stretch the image. Another option, I think, would be to decrease the Windows resolution.

You'll have to change Windows' resolution, yeah. Program Manager -> Main -> Windows Setup -> Options -> Change System Settings -> Display. Choose 640x480 256 colors (this will be the third option on the list), which is what the game is using.
Probably my fault for making the package use 1024x768 as the standard resolution rather than 640x480 which was probably more common. |
