Jagged Alliance 1 on Windows XP?
Hi folks.
A few days ago, i've bought Jagged Alliance 1 from an used-games Shop in town. I've tried to run the game multiple times directly on Windows XP with no result. I've clicked the JA.exe, a window opens and closes within a few sceonds. I know, i can run the game is dosbox (Dosbox was the only way to install it,too), but my pc is really old, so most of the ''newer'' games are unplayable 'cause they lagg like hell in Dosbox. Is there any way to get the game working in XP itself? I've tried also the compatibility mode but with no success I really want to play this play this game again Before i forget, it's the german CD-Version and the salesman meant it's one of the first edition as well. (But i don't think it has do to something with that ) Hope someone can help me

Compatibility mode won't help - Jagged Alliance runs under DOS and to my knowledge there was no native Windows version (the GOG release uses DOSBox far as I know).
You could try VDMSound. It's not as good as DOSBox but has a lower impact on performance. |

If it quits to the desktop you want to know why. You could run it from the command line in case it outputs some message, although maybe it won't.
Shouldn't this be moved to Troubleshooting/specific games?

You could try VPC2004/MsDos6.22 ... but only if you have enough RAM ....
You didn't give much details ..... Also, if you're PC is 'really old' you should be able to boot from floppy, if you have a FAT32 partition Freedos or MsDos 7.1 could do the trick......even booting dos from CD can work. Also² if your BIOS can boot from USB key, that's also a possibility .... you would be amazed how many dos based games you can run from a 8 GB Freedos sticky ..... sound could be a problem, but 'really old' should cope (BIOS SB comp setting!) etcetera etcetera blah blah ..... be creative and use your brain !!!!!

You don't need a floppy to boot. Every computer is supposed to check the CDroms for exactly the same thing. This mean that creating a boot CD work the same.

That's what I said, isn't it?
However, as he ask it's safe to assume he will have to try a lot of things out, then floppy boot to try things out is advised, it's easier to fine tune config and autoexec on a boot floppy, even create fine tuned sophisticated multi boot options with multi-config commands for nitpicking games ... etcetera .. < insert the usual blah blah here > .... Once he's happy with the boot floppy he easily can create a boot CD from the floppy.

Yeah, well I understand that. I'm simply wondering if he have a floppy drive to begin with. My computer is almost 10 years old and I had to specifically ask for one to be installed in it.
