It seems you are trying to run the game in plain Windows. I strongly suggest you use DosBox instead.
You can download it here. And don't forget about reading the readme file, in this case it's very important.

The music might have been removed from this copy of the game in order to reduce the size it occupies on the server.

Don't remove files from classic games like these. :tai:

TFX is the best flight-sim I've ever played. (pre-texture era). Only disappointment is that it has restricted resolution (if only someone could do a patch).

Likewise, INFERNO is the best space-sim I've ever played. (D.I.D. are true pioneers of arcade sim games if you ask me). Same engine different style/setting. Not only very impressive looking but VERY IMMERSIVE as well.

Uh, I've heard that before... But I can't quite figure out what the solution was, I don't remember... :tai: I think it was something about the cd...

Are you using DosBox?

For those having trouble getting this working. The following worked for me:

Select all files in TFX folder.
Right click and choose properties. Make sure Read Only is unticked. Press OK
Run DosBox
In TFX folder, run "config". Press Save
run "tfx"

Have fun k:

Stunning graphics for 1993. Not high-resolution, but the artwork and quality are second to none. Very immersive.

Quite a good and realistic sim, but I liked it's predecessor "Tornado" better (at least I *think* it was a predecessor). But maybe that's because I actually had (or still have) the 400-page manual for Tornado, but not for TFX
