Yep if you have payed crowd everything is possible, like making the statue of liberty dissapear.
[/b]
The disappearing Statue of Liberty is a very simple and straightforward illusion. The paying audience is seated at a platform that that faces the statue, but is actually nowhere near it, and has a curtain that can be closed to block line of sight. As this trick is done after dark, you need to have the lights at the statue on, and for extra effect, have a helicopter with a bright spotlight circle the statue. Close the curtain and switch off the lights that illuminate the statue. Have the helicopter fly closer to the audience (but still remain far away) and circle an empty space. When the curtain opens, the audience will see that the helicopter is still circling where they thought the statue was, but the searchlight will reveal nothing. Close the curtains for a second time, turn the lights back on and have the helicopter fly back to circling the statue, so you can magically return the Statue of Liberty to its place. No need to pay the audience.

At close range, at the right angle, you can appear to be levitating by lifting yourself up on the ball of one foot, while holding the other foot level (start with your feet together). It sounds really stupid, but there are points of view where it looks like you are levitating an inch or two off of the ground.

All the "pick a card" variations hinge on forcing the volunteer to pick the card that you want him to see.

Magic is all about showmanship, as the illusions are all embarassingly simple. The presentation is everything, as shown by Penn and Teller's "Seven Basic Moves of Magic", or their performance of the cup and ball trick with transparent cups-- you know exactly what they are doing, but the patter keeps you interested.

Is that true about the Statue of Liberty? I'm fairly sure that was done with a mirror between the audience and the statue, cunningly angled so they saw the reflection of the sky behind them in place of the statue.

No, the Statue of Liberty was only a media trick. The entire audience is in on the trick. The curtain drops, all the girls run to a different part of the stage, the camera pans away from the statue, and the girls take their original poses next to the empty space.

I just saw this show for the first time recently, and it did in fact freak my mind out. He himself didn't actually accomplish this; what did freak me out was seeing carrottop on one of his stunts, and carrottop was freaking ripped. HE WAS HUGE. Carrot top as a body builder just... doesn't sit well with me.

As for wether or not "it's real", in the 20 minutes I watched the show, I did see one trick that I found to be utterly cheap as crap; this guy was supposed to draw a picture on his back of a pose, and then chris would "suck the information from the guy's mind and his body would naturally assume that pose". Hello? He could totally feel the marker being pressed on his back. However, the blatantly creepy and unnatural way he delivered the result [body shaking etc as he assumed the pose] made it less fail. It's all about the delivery.

And I'm still confused as hell how the heck he levitated between the two buildings...I read two theories, one involving helium, and the other air jets, but both don't seem very plausible.

Neither would work.

You'd be able to tell if it was helium for two reasons. One being that he would be bobbing around in the wind and constantly floating upwards; the other reason would be he would be dead from the amount of helium he would have had to ingest to do it.

Air jets wouldn't work either, 'cause you'd also see him being thrown around more, and... well, there's a mythbusters episode that involves flight using compressed air, if I recall correctly. Consult that one.

In all honesty, I haven't actually seen this stunt. I've only seen the clips of it on commercials.

Well, this guy tried to walk on the water in the town I came from. Everything went fine until the glass sheets broke. Obviously this Chris fellow isn't levitating as in some sort of computer game, but I'll say it again: The whole illusion is based on the fact that we can't tell for sure how he does it. That's all.

I do not know how David Copperfield did it, I only know how I would do it if someone offered me enough money to try it myself. I do not believe that David Copperfield staged it for television with a fake audience of actors, as that is just too unprofessional.
