I could use a little help here but please don't shout at me for being dim. I'm running ffe with the java patch and used to play frontier a while ago but for the life of me can't work this problem out. When I use the navcomp to select a destination and then get attacked I cannot reclaim control of my thrusters. I can change the facing of my ship but present an easy target as I'm drifting unidirectionally. What have I missed? The manual is no help.

It sounds like your thrusters are under full manual direction, and you're drifting because your forward momentum hasn't been equaled yet. click on your thrusters until you see the set speed and actual speed indicators in the bottom left corner. That allows automatics to do most of the work.

in the lower left cornes is your speed and if its like x thousand of km/s,you dont have any chance of steering.you would have to slow down first,and that takes few hours.

Thanks Toxik, I think you're right. Anybody got any tips on how to survive when screaming at silly speeds and getting zinged around by pirates. My panther can handle it but isn't fast enough for many military missions. My smaller ships get destroyed in just a few seconds if I can't manuever.

Also hang on... If I can't manuever because of my speed, how can the pirates?

Man I love this game, but it's busting my brain.
