Hey guys, I'm trying to slipstream sp2 into my WindowsXP file, but for some reason I can't copy all of the folders off my cdrom to my hard-disk. I think it's because the cd's pretty scratched up(I tried toothpaste to no avail).I also find reinstalling Windows to be a chore as the first installation isn't sure to complete properly. I was wondering if, due to the fact that I have a registration code for windows xp home edition, It is legal for me to download a different windows xp home iso. off a p2p and just scrap my crappy oem version?

If you own the WinXP CD legally then it should be legal as the linence agreement that comes with it states you are allowed to own as many copies of it as you like, provided you don't start selling them/giving them away.
I don't know about your country's laws though so don't take my word for it. |

I'd call my local Microsoft support, and see if it isn't possible to get a new cd.

They'll probably replace it if you send in the old one, most people do.

As I know, you are only allowed to make ONE backup copy of each legally owned CD/DVD. This may be different in other countries but for USA and Hungary and the rest of Europe, I think this stands. So it worth looking into that licence agreement of you! Just to be sure, ya know! k:

cool thanx guys. From what the guy at the local computer store was saying I'm allowed to install one version of windows home edition on one computer. Doesn't matter where I get the program from I just can't install it on multiple computers.
