![]() Hi!
Bought Sim Isle for my son. He has Windows 7. When trying to install, we get a message saying the setup.exe is missing or damaged. What to do? Is the game too old for W7? |

![]() It's a DOS/Windows 3/Windows 95 game. I recommend trying to run it in DOSBox, or in a copy of Windows 3.11 running in DOSBox.

![]() Just wanted to reply to thread to confirm for any others trying to play Simisle, but who might not be very familiar/accustomed to using DOSBox, that it does work. I'm using a win 7 64 bit PC.
Once you've installed DOSBox, then: 1. Create a folder on your preferred drive to contain anything you want to install via DOSBox. ...I created mine on C: and called it "DOSBoxProgs" so the pathway to the folder is C:\DOSBoxProgs\ 2. In the DOSBox window at the Z:\ command prompt type "mount C C:\DOSBoxProgs" ...this tells the DOSBox program to treat that DOSBoxProgs folder (or whatever you named the folder) as the C: drive for the purpose of using DOSBox 3. At the Z:\ command prompt, assuming D:\ is your cdrom drive (if not just replace it with whatever your CDROM drive is labelled) type "mount D D:\ -t cdrom" ... this tells the DOSBox program to recognise your D:\ drive as a D drive and that it's a cdrom drive. 4. At the Z:\ command prompt, type "D:" and it will then access your cdrom drive. You can then type "dir" and it should type out all the files on the drive for you, of which you should see and INST EXE file, so type "INST" and it will start the installation process. 5. Once finished installing if the game isn't already running then typing "SIMISLE" should do so. 6. All you need to do to play the game again in the future is a-> run DOSBox b-> in DOSBox mount the folder containing the Simisle installation as the C: drive, so in my case the command was: "mount C C:\DOSBoxProgs\SIMISLE" (because when installing the game it creates it's own SIMISLE game folder. c-> I also mount the D: cdrom drive as per step 3 above. I'm not sure if the game needs the installation CD to run after the installation has been completed, so I do it just to be on the safe side. Cheers. |
