Anyone ever had a go at making their own game?
14 years ago, I bought a program called Klik & Play which got me hooked for months. I was only 15 then and was struggling with the 250 page manual at first. It looked so cool though: the ability to make your own games! Wooo! So many possibilities!
Well, yes and no. Klik & Play was rather basic, sadly enough. For starters, it boasted about its huge library of pre-made graphics which ... were all quite useless. I mean, if you wanted to make a platform game, you only had one or two animated characters and their movies and animations were limited to shooting and walking. Woo. Enemies? Sorry, you got to make your own. Still, this didn't stop me and in no time I was coming up with my own games with my own graphics. Sadly enough, the limits of Klik & Play often threw a spanner in the works, forcing me to scale down the game or to just abandon it. I still managed to make some fun games though including one which was very popular in the entire school (based on an old Atari 2 player game where you shot projectiles that bounced off walls). Later there was the Games Factory which was quite a bit better but it was still too limited for my liking. So, who else has tried his or her hand at a game of your own? Know any cool software to do so? Spill the beans . I may post some of my oldies later if I can still find them. |
