The profile picture is separate from your forum avatar.
They were integrated ONCE, but the integration caused several annoying issues when users tried uploading avatars in different format than the original avatar was in.

you can change your forum avatar in your control panel, it's the button "My settings" above the forums, where you can also set your personal title(if you have enough posts i think) and signature

This was because there was a bug. It is now corrected and implemented, it was caused by a hard-coded link to the node that would be bookmarked - A quick fix in other words.

Nope, that didn't work. Restoring the old code which connected to that script just caused the forum to stop loading as soon as it tried to display any avatar.
