![]() Wait, this is a bit dumb.
"OH MY GOODNESS! A SEX SCENE IN A M RATED GAME FOR 17 YEAR OLDS!" "WAIT WE SHOULD RAISE THE RATING TO AO, FOR 18 AND UP!" "YES, THAT SEEMS LIKE A REASONABLE COURSE OF ACTION, DESPITE THE ONE YEAR DIFFERENCE!"

![]() Yeah, on the other hand kids get taught about sex at the age of 11 and then talk about it as soon as they hit puberty.
And one of the stories that the BBC one is linked to about how computer games are 'bad and wrong' or somesuch is extremely irresponsible. I played Deus Ex at the age of 12. Was I affected? No. And that's because despite being realistic it's clearly ficticious. I played Unreal Tournament at an even younger age, did that affect me either? No. And that's because it's made up. I played Vice City a couple of weeks ago. Did that make me don some 80's gladrags, seduce prostitutes and kill an assortment of people to steal their money? No. Because that has consequences. I've played Max Payne 2 recently. Did that make me have sex with an assassin and kill a large amount of mobsters, all of the time at night? No, because that's impossible. I don't think that anyone mentally sound would be badly affected by games. The closest I have ever got to that is having nightmares after playing System Shock 2. But did that make me hunt down rogue AI programs and indeed fight psycic monkeys? No. Because it's IN THE BLOODY FUTURE. |

![]() That doesn't really say anything, computer games are wrong in a sense, they're violent and very little bounds are presented.
Some say this relieves the user of hateful effects, an outlet of aggression. Other say this increases the chance of violent expression in tempermental situations. The whole truth is that it's different for each and every person, in theory, ratings will never truly be a good source of information as to who can play the game. People are sick in the head sometimes, and they can digest a game in a way that it shouldn't be. This in the end leads to misinterpation, hate, and a fountain of ideas for murder and imitation. Whereas stable people, (like you and me, everday gamers) can play games without thinking twice, we all see it as fantasy and what it is, a game. We realize what can hurt people and what can't, so we all interpert this without any thoughts of violence. Parents also seem to have a very contradicting debate on this. Many say that developers should regulate what they create, but in the end the parents do not regulate what their children play, so if a child goes off and murder people because of GTA, is it not the parents fault for ignoring the M rating and giving their child the ability to access what inspired his rampage? It's all human nature, and it will always be so. Politics make us violent, activist action make us violent, violence against violence, there's never any other explanation.

![]() Video games are just that. Games. We derive enjoyment from them. And if violence gives you that feeling, then, have fun. There are alternatives, games aren't a tool of the devil. Puzzle games, RPG's, blah blah blah. It's not like everyone who picks up a controller is a deviant waiting to murder your children.
