Question Does anyone else think Spore is going to be a flop?

I've been looking forward to Spore for a while now. Yet, as the release date draws nearer and the hype rises I have become more and more worried it will turn into another 'Black and White'.

Recently though I stumbled upon a thread (link) that talks about the first review. All seemed okay (a rather impressive score) until I read this:

Cons:
Not deep enough
All about the creator
Designed for Non-gamers

Not deep enough? Designed for Non-gamers? I always thought this game was all about depth and now I'm not so sure if I'm as excited. Do any of you think it will turn out okay?

I'm not waiting for Spore...
I was waiting for B&W, but it was boring for me after first island. Still, in my opinion, both of these games are something good. In both of them there are elements that are completely new to gaming and someone can use these ideas to develop some more interesting stuff.

Defining point = Will Wright is not an imbecile.

Black & White = Peter Molyneux is an imbecile.

Hopefully Will Wright will have looked at god-sim type of games like B&W, and not repeated their mistakes.

Black and white was great fun and different from other games of its era, but was let down hugely by a lack of longevity.

Saying that, its one of many games that I'm surprised there hasn't been a Wii cash-in for, I would have thought it would be perfect, although I would port over many mouse-heavy games, now that theres a system with an equivalent control method.

He doesn't need to look at anything since he single-handedly created the best examples of games in the genre and made, along with his team, impeccable AI in the two Sims games.

His development crew are among the best in the industry, you need to be damned good at coding to be on his programming squad.

The game has the depth you put into it, the depth you make of it. this is one of the features of Maxis games that has a long-standing tradition... They require the user to have an imagination, and that they use it.

I have found spore to have enough depth from the Creature Creator alone!

Apparently the reviewer is more about games like GTA IV and FPS. Spore is designed to appeal to all ages, and the lack of the sort of nonsense that children can't be exposed to is interpreted as lack of depth, but there is depth there... rest assured.
