![]() Hi everyone. I'm slowly going through all of the games I've downloaded to make sure they play (which is why I post so often!) and today I've been trying to get Darkseed going but am having problems.
The first thing I did was to try and play it using DOS box. After I put in everything (mount c c:\darkseed C: DS) I get a message saying that the game name (DS) is an illegal command. The same thing happens when I try to use the Start or TOS files and I'm not sure what the problem is. The next thing I did was to try and play it using VDM Sound, but no matter which batch file I used, the game would begin and play the intro, then cycle back and replay the intro over and over again, never playing the actual game. After that, I double-clicked on the TOS file (which I re-named Darkseed) and the game started up fine. I was able to play for awhile but when it came to the part where the package arrives, the game would boot me out and back to the desktop. After that happened I went into the file again and it put me in the game after the package arrived, so I was able to walk around a bit for while. But when the phone rang and I picked it up, the game froze completely and I had to control-alt-delete to get out of it. I'm not sure what else to do at this point, so I'd really appreciate any ideas you guys might have. In case you need my computer specs, here they are: Operating System System Model Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600) Dell Computer Corporation Inspiron 5150 Enclosure Type: Portable Processor a Main Circuit Board b 3.05 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 8 kilobyte primary memory cache 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache Board: Dell Computer Corporation Serial Number: . . . ![]() DS is helluva buggy. It crashed often on a pure DOS machine I had.

![]() Yup. It's a b*tch to get running. I finally got it to run using VDMSound after tweaking some of the mem-settings, but it still remains tricky.
On a pure DOS machine it ran like a charm though... The crash with the package has to do with the in-game animations (which can cause troubles in some cases). The phone scene contains a speech sample, so that might pose a problem. Try running the game with no sound and see if the problem is still there! |
