![]() I'd like to record my gameplay of a DOS game, specifically Life And Death 1. I'd like to record me preforming the appendectomy, as I'm doing a report on appendicitis in Health Class. We're required to have at least one visual aid, and I thought the game would work great. I can't find any programs to record the game, and I'd probably screw up(not to mention not being allowed to) if I'm playing in school in front of classmates.

![]() Here's what you could do. It's not a good solution, but it works:
Perform your operation and have someone sit next to you, pressint ctrl+f5 as fast as they can, during the whole thing. Then download "TheRename", which is a mass-file-rename-and-converter, to change all the PNG files into GIFs. Then use the Animation Shop that comes with PaintShop Pro to chain them all up and have yourself an animated gif. If you need AVI or MPG for example, you can then use Adobe Premiere (I dont know if Windows Movie Maker can do it) to convert the format into .avi or anything else you want. I should mention that I have done this once, with a 10 second sequence of PacMan. |

![]() Could work. But 10 seconds plaes in comparison of up to 7 or 8 minutes. I do have a video of the actual surgery, done through a camera inserted with a light and stuff. I almost puke watching it though.

![]() It's not that big of a difference. I mean it wouldn't take you that much longer to do 8 minutes than 10 seconds.
Since you mass-convert the files then mass-add them to the animation, it's almost just as quick. The only thing that takes longer is the pushing of ctrl+f5 for 8 minutes as fast as possible :P It would still be inaccurate though. Human error. Another suggestion to replace your "assistant" would be to get a program that simulates a key input and make it loop ctrl+f5 every 40 miliseconds (25fps). |

![]() Can't FRAPS record areas on the screen? If so you could just put DOSBox in a window and record that.
I use HyperCam, but it puts a nasty "Unregistered HyperCam" notice in the video corner. |

![]() Fraps can only record application windows that use DirectX. Which is why you can even record movies playing in Media Player and such, or games like Diablo1 (requiring directx 3), but not DOS stuff.
EDIT: And unless you buy the full version, FRAPS only records up to 640x480 pixels of the window, starting from the top-left corner. This isn't really relevant for old DOS games that usually have 300x200, but I thought I'd mention it. |

![]() I tried to use a macro program to record, but it didn't work. I've got to alt tab to DOSBox after starting the program because it takes away focus, then after that, the ctrl-f5 doesn't work.
