Its time to make free love and show peace signs! I just noticed that hippi-era is back!!

Just look at the war in middle-east! Its like Vietnam out there!

So lets all now start smoking weed, wearing groovy clothes and crow loooong hair! The 60's are back!!!

*What do you think? Should we try?

For the love of God, NO! LOL

Do we really need another round of acid trippers who are so far out they probably can answer if the Universe is limitless or bounded? The hippie movement was and will be a fashion thing. Really, it was. Posh kids growing their hair and sitting around the campfire firmly believing they actually changed anything by smoking pot. Where did they go? They became CEOs and stockbrokers... It was viet- veterans that became the greatest force in the anti-war movement, simply because they knew the insanity and pointlessness of war. The hippies read fantastic anti war books written by other hippies, popped a pill and wished LotR was real. "It was fun when we were kids, but now that reality calls...".

Hippies... *shudders*

I speak from experience, in my misguided teens I stupidly tried to live on a commune - and this wasn't a logical Israeli-Kibbutz-type-commune either, it was a full fledged hippy drop-out patch of mud and filth up in the Glass House Mountains, Australia.

It was revolting.

The children ran wild - I mean really wild biting and spitting and just generally going feral. Whilst the adults didn't really do much at all, except smoke alot of pot, have sex with each other and talk about how they were going to get around to building the farm that was suppossed to feed and support us... They never did.

My "job" (and I kid you not about this) was to play the pipe. Yes, you read that correctly, if I tootled on my tin whistle for a couple of hours each day (apparently it would help the crops grow, if they ever got planted that is <_< ) then I was welcome to come and partake in this utopian lifestyle. My job was given to me by this creepy Indian guy who I will never forget because of his hairstyle - 3 great big smelly dreadlocks. Only 3, but individually they were as thick as my forearm, about as long as my leg and as smelly as, well, a dirty, smelly, hippy.

Anyway, I got pretty sick of it all - There is only so many bad teeth, stinky bodies, and socially inept and hypocrytical people that one girl can take, so after about a month or so, I packed my tin whistle and got the hell out of there. I have had my bra on firmly and my hair clean and dread free ever since

The punchline to this little story is that about 3 months after leaving that Hippy Hell-Hole I was back in the area, at the local town. I asked a local what was going on at the commune and he informed me that soon after I had left there were really bad rains and the whole camp had been washed away - it still makes me laugh when I think about it now, best rain that God ever made

Good heavens (pun very much intended)! I mean, I never went to a flower boot camp or anything, but this is just a hilarious read. The closest I ever got to them, was a neighbour who flipped her lid completely in the 60s. Had flowers and grass (not weed ) on her kids birthday cake and all, and she would become even more unglued if we didn't eat the stuff.

The grossest unwillingly satire of hippies I've ever seen was at the Roskilde festival some 15 years back. Kids away from home for the first time, 15 years old talking about woodstock as if they ever went there. It was bleeding pathetic. Newly bought robes and sandals, costing only a fortune at the local mall. Coughing over that pipe and wheezing out pre-rehearshed phrases like "good sh*t". I never went back there.

Sure why not, *takes acid*, *opens the gates of perception*.

Seriously though I do like most of the "hippie" music, although the movement itself is rather utopian and... smelly.

Ooooh, I just got the Goose-Bumps Of Shame in sympathy for those kids

I don't really know what possessed me to go all hippy-esque, I mean it is probably in my blood to not be like that - after all my father went to the original Isle Of Wright Festival, but nobody would talk to him because everybody thought that he was an undercover police officer LOL

There is nothing more disheartening or irritating as store-bought tie-die apparel... Actually, there is nothing more disheartening or irritating as tie-die period

I too listen to some of that stuff, but when it becomes that really militant peace and love preaching thing, I basically snap LOL

I think I can say the same thing about this "punk outfit" that these "we are all individuals" punks around here who will stop at nothing trying to get that pre-worn out leather jacket, tons of spikes and pins, and all the correct records. It just makes me tired.

Bloody Hell, Yes Try it again!

We have no choice. I mean, we can choose between Commie-Hippie-Stuff who are always happy and have crazy ideas.... k: ...or American Conservatives who are always sad, talk about money all the time... :not_ok: *shudders*

No thanks, i'll take the Hippie side.

Although you can't say hippies are all negative, they did contribute to liberalization of western society and also improvement of human rights, cause even when those people grew up and became stock brockers or what not, they still maintaned their political views on human rights, and overall liberal views that shape the modern society.
