![]() I have c: and d: disk. On my c: disk I installed Win98, and on my d: disk I installed WinXP. But after I formated c: disk, I can't boot my WinXP, only Win98 (it doesn't even ask me to choose which windows I want to boot). Can I edit bootlog, or some other files to enable WinXP booting, too?
Please help! :help: :help: :help: |

![]() dual booting is a tricky business that quite often runs into issues if something gets tweaked. I'm guessing that you would want to enter your bios and look to see which drive is set to boot first. Or moreso where the system is looking for an operating system first. Maybe also check to see if plug and play operating systems are allowed.
The thing that puzzles me though, and maybe this sis just because I'm not devoted to dos gaming, but it seems that if you have 2 hard drives and running both XP and 98, you have a high end system. Therefore, why not just use the emulators and say screw it to the dual booting technique? |

![]() Dual boot has MANY advantages thou.
I would sugest that you reverse order on the systems, eg XP on C and 98 on D. Found this to be MUCH less problematic. Ofcourse you have the issue with FAT16/32 vs NTFS. Good Luck!

![]() a boot loader like lilo can switch the bios disks around so windows 98 will work from D just fine.
Xp prefers to be on NTFS but Win98 can not read this.

![]() Windows 98 doens't do NTFS, so the parititon it would be one needs to be FAT32. So if this is also your XP parition, you'd be working with a sub-optimal file system.
Edit: Data beat me to that reaction! |

![]() Uhhh, I told ya long time ago not to do this....
First copy Ntldr and the Ntdetect.com from you WinXP installation CD (folder I386) to C drive, in the root directory. Then create Boot.ini file like this: Code:
[boot loader] timeout=30 Default= multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\windows [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\windows="Windows 98" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows="Windows XP" In the case it does not work, then copy these files (Ntldr, Ntdetect.com and Boot.ini) on the floppy and boot form the floppy. Good luck! ps1 - You can get lilo with any Linux distribution. ps2 - Floppy has to be formated with XP. Aks some friends to format it for you. |
