How to use files from ISO cellar?
I have searched the forums, searched the web and I couldn't find any thing to help me. I know how to use the .iso file themselves in dosbox, but how do I use other files such as .img files or any other format that might be found in the iso cellar? I have also just downloaded daemon tools, but can that be used with dosbox?
Sorry if there is a thread, but I have searched for several days and didn't find anything that helped me. Also sorry if this isn't the correct forum. |

What you can mount in daemon tools you can mount in dosbox.
Syntax: mount d x:\ -t cdrom This will mount the daemon virtual drive as D: in dosbox. Replace x:\ by the real daemon's drive letter under Windows. If you need multiple CD images to run the game: ALT-TAB to minimalize dosbox, mount the correct image in daemon when needed, reactivate dosbox and hit CTRL+F4 to refresh dosbox's drive cache. BTW, if BIN/CUE image, always point to CUE file to mount correctly. BTW, another really excellent Virtual CD drive soft is magic disk, also freeware: http://download.cnet.com/MagicDisc/3...-10383679.html

With BIN/CUE or IMG/CUE, you use them with IMGMOUNT exactly the same as ISO.
Like: @imgmount D F:\DosGames\shorted\iso\Star_Trek_Judgement_Rites. img -t iso @imgmount D "F:\DosGames\shorted\iso\Space Hulk.bin" -t iso |

Keep in mind 5th, that even if *.img and *.bin can work in dosbox, only ISOs and BIN/CUEs are officially 100% supported.
All other formats then ISO and BIN/CUE are 'trial and sometimes error' with the imgmount command line in dosbox. It can work, but it also can't. All depends how and with what soft the images are created.

I just wanted to know because I looked through the iso cellar and saw several games I would like, but I am on dialup and don't want to download the files if I don't know how to use them and can't figure it out. I will try these and see how they work. Edit: Apparently I DIDN'T try to mount the img file I got because it worked, guess I got the syntax wrong or just something else, or dreamed mounting it (with me there is no telling) Okay, off to happily download and I will be sure to post here if I need help with something Edit2: Okay, with the ISO cellar, do I have to download EVERY file there under a specific link (for instance the wolf files, do I have to download all the wolf.r01 etc... as well as the wolf.rar and the other files there?) I normally would, but I just want to make sure before I download them incase I can get out of it (remember that dialup problem ) Last edited by kittybrod; 30-04-2009 at 12:31 AM. The standard ISO format does not support mixed mode CD images. Mixed mode= data track + separate music tracks on one CD. Plus some 'copy' protected CDs won't work with ISO. Etcetera.... Only 75-80% (?) of the images you convert to ISO will work correctly. To conclude: you're usually best simply using the format the image is provided, or you will have to learn the extended basics of CD copying.
