Unhappy joystick for sensi world

I would be grateful if any of you peeps could give me some advice on how to configure a joystick for sensible world of soccer.

The joystick I have installed is like a PS2 gamepad and connects through a USb port, which the dos configuration section does not seem to recognise.:confused:

I look forward to your expert advice as I am quite new to abandonware. Hope this isn't too lame a question.

So near yet so far to playing one of the best footy games ever (too damn hard with the keyboard!!)

I'm taking it you are running the game in DOSBox?

Have you tried the various types in the DOSBox configuraton file? Try the different options here, and look in the DOSBox system window (not the wondow that shows the prompt, but the other one). See if it reports your pad there.

Quote:
[joystick]
# joysticktype -- Type of joystick to emulate: auto (default), none,
# 2axis (supports two joysticks), 4axis,
# fcs (Thrustmaster), ch (CH Flightstick).
# none disables joystick emulation.
# auto chooses emulation depending on real joystick(s).
# timed -- enable timed intervals for axis. (false is old style behaviour).
# autofire -- continuously fires as long as you keep the button pressed.
# swap34 -- swap the 3rd and the 4th axis. can be useful for certain joysticks.
# buttonwrap -- enable button wrapping at the number of emulated buttons.

joysticktype=4axis
timed=false
autofire=false
swap34=true
buttonwrap=true

thanks for the quick response.

the joystick is listed in the other dosbox window.

I can't seem to access the config file on the z: drive (feeling pretty dumb right now), can you explain how to access the joystick options.

Z: drive? Can you post the folder path to the game, or if you have a shared folder for all dos games, the path to that folder. Also, post your "mount" command in DOSBox (and if you have that inserted in your config file or if you mount everytime you start DOSBox)

EDIT: Your DOSBox configuration is accessed externally, that is, not via DOSBox.

It's a known issue that at least sometimes DOSBox detects the joystick all right (even with joysticktype=auto), but for some reason it doesn't map it to the virtual one within DOSBox. Just press Ctrl+F1 and map it manually, that made mine go.

I have tried all the different types in the dosbox config file, auto,2axis and 4axis.
On all of them the down button works on the game menu screen but no other button works.

I have downloaded the game from this site. One of the dos execute files is named install. If I access the file by double-clicking on the icon in windows I can configure the sound and controller. It is called a WAVE installation program for sensible world of soccer. It is here that it says that there is no joystick.

If I access the dos install file in dosbox I am unable to configure.

I mount every time using the command mount c c:\sws. then I change to the c:
drive and type sws to run the game.

Sorry for being such an idiot.

In DOSBox, type dir *.exe (or dir *.bat or dir *.com). Look for the install/setup file and type the name of that file (e.g. you have setup.exe, type setup).

For this to work, you need to be in the directory of the game files.
Use the commands
cd [directory name] or
cd ..
to navigate through the directories.
Thing is, it is possible that the pad needs DOSBox to recognize it, and that Windows won't allow the setup program to recognize it.

dosbox recognises the joypad but the game set-up does not. Trying to configure the controller set-up in dosbox does not work. I run the install file and it goes to the wave installation program just fine, but when I select configure it doesn't do anything.

I have tried the ctrl-f1 option too but that doesn't work either. Either I am doing something wrong or it can't be done.

Thanks for your help, I do appreciate it.

Since I'm running out of ideas Here's the DOSBOX forum. See if you can find an answer there. Also; try google the name of your controller + DOSBox, and see if you come up with anything.
