This program is what is called a distributed computing program and if activated will use your spare computing power to search for cures for various illnesses. The calculations needed to do this require a lot of computing power to complete and rather then buy time on a supercomputer with money these scientist never have they ask the internet community to, together, form a supercomputer all of their own.
