My view on this is complicated.
You know when folks say "life's just a game"? Well, I think that's literally true. In the "main life", which is the life we have when we're not playing this game, you can buy this as a MMORPG. And when you start, you can only choose an ant or something. Then, if you accumulate enough points, you can be a rabbit. Then a dog or cat, and so on.
The "points" which are comparable to "Karma" are based on whether you have a consistent and interesting character. So, it doesn't actually matter whether you're "good" or "bad", so long as you're happy with being that.
So, next time a disaster happens, just think "I bet the Players are going to have fun watching me try to get out of this!"
