Nope, no food or water. It is like Baldur's Gate in that regards. And it is just he or she, since you only have a single character (and a hireling). And even if your copy isn't legal, there's tons of stuff here (for instance a remake of EOBI)

But really, ever since Dark Sun: Shattered Lands contaminated me, I either played or just came into knowledge of most wRPGs on the PC, good or bad. (yes, just another opportunity to mention Descent to Undermountain)
