My Problems with the game
I have just finished the game yesterday.
It was a perfectly fine game, and I am a sucker for adventures anyway. But I've encountered some plot problems with the game.
Warning! This post contains tons of spoilers
OK, let's start:
1. It plays in a dystopia, but the setting is not depressing enough. All the people seeem to be pretty happy with their jobs and their lives, except Anita. There are travel agencies, insurance companies and plastic surgeries. No comparison to the bleak worlds of "we" or "1984". The surveillance and police state elements are pretty tame, too. There are some messages in the linc computers about watching your neighbours, but apart from that, you don't see much police. There is one police station filled with incompetent, comical personell and one cop who guards the crashed helicopter and another one who guards the cathedral. That's it. Not much surveillance cams either.
2. An evil megalomiacal computer controls the city but you don't notice it! Apart from the court scene, there is not much weirdness. Again, it's very tame. Come on, why are there no public executions for example? Just to spice up the setting.
A dystopic city run by a crazed AI - but it feels like you're wandering in a futuristic mall or something. Especially after you take the first elevator.
The over-happy music in level 2 doesn't do justice to the setting either.
3. The only real dramatic element is the intro. Speaking of the intro: Robert Foster's tribe is killed, his only family that he knows. After the intro ends, he doesn't seem to care. He doesn't seem to be angry or sad about it.
4. LINC wants Foster alive, without him, LINC will die in its current form. So, why is no one apprehending Foster? You meet Gallagher, the android half way through the game. Gallagher knows who you are. Why doesn't Gallagher try to get Foster? Why is Rob free to roam the city after he met Gallagher? Don't forget, it's possible to die in this game. So it's dangerous to let Foster just move around.
5. Speaking of that - if you enter the android laboratory in the last stages of the game unprepared, Walter, the android, kills you. HELLO?!
Hey, developers, have you forgotten your plot? Linc needs Foster ALIVE. He is the most important person in the whole world to him. That's why the computer killed Reich! I can understand that Reich tries to kill Robert, Reich is just a human. But how can Walter do that? The android works directly under the orders of LINC. He should know how important Robert Foster to LINC is.
And even if the Android doesn't know that (dubious), why doesn't LINC stop the android from killing Foster? Are you telling me, the android lab has absolutely no surveillance cameras?Spoilers
