I don't know about which game you're talking about (Venice or Space), but a simple reinstall of Murders in Space does the trick. I don't get what's wrong with the preinstalled version, but the problem doesn't lie with the crack or the missing inst.bat that gets added with the installation. So the issue's elsewhere.
Anyways, after installing the game either from the .ima file or from the same preinstalled dir the save feature works, even if the folder is placed in a subdirectory.
