Thank you for your post. Power-wise I do not mind external hard drive with adapter. I most likely will use it at home, so portability is not an issue here.
Software-wise is also not important, because I work mostly on Linux, and only boot to Windows to play games and occasional internet browsing (and it is still much, much, much safer to browse on Linux anyway).
Coincidentally there will be a computer expo locally tomorrow. I think I'll go and try to browse more before deciding on one. Hopefully Buffalo Technology will have a kiosk set up. I am curious to compare their hard drives with WD. But if nothing comes close to WD, then WD it is
