I remember when I bought my first computer, second hand, from the owner. He was telling me excitedly that he had two fab games installed: Kyrandia and an Indiana Jones Atlantis game, but I had no idea what computer games were like so I didn't pay much attention. After a few days, out of curiousity, I tried Kyrandia and was hooked. The game play and the chance to save someone/s from the bad guy and set on an amazingly beautiful island with fantasy characters and falling leaves that turned into jewels had me entranced. I'd go to bed and dream about the game, only it was called Rapture. I called up the man and asked if there were any more games like that but he couldn't really suggest any only said I should also try Zork Nemesis. Then I was hooked all over again.
I've bought some of the latest adventure games but they're so banal and pointless, the characters are just walking pixels wandering around a fantastic looking background. I'd love to discover a new game that gave as much joy as the first two. In adventure games it's all about the story and the characters. If these are weak, then everything becomes meaningless.
I agree with you Midget about finding new interests. That's healthy, isn't it? I'm more into art and design right now.
