3 - There are cities which yeild a lot of gold when plundered, they're the cities of gold (the Aztec and even more the Incan cities), but there will be no special notification.
2 - No, they don't produce their own food, so you will need to supply it and you may also want to supply people (don't forget you only have males, so no reproduction possible).
1 - I've never reached the end, but I've read in one of the magazines back in the eighties (when the original game first came out) that the game ends when you have discovered everything (100% on the map) - as I said, I never got that far, never beyond 88%.
