As a kid I really didn't see the appeal nor knew exactly what I had to do. For one, paperboys don't exist in Europe in general. It's usually the mail that delivers the papers. Also, I had no clue why I always ran out of newspapers. Few games back then had any similar limit, and the word "subscriber" was alien to me.
Still, I can reasonably enjoy it now. It's a good game, although sometimes it's up to chance what will happen, meaning that some things are impossible to avoid.
