Firefox ripped the idea off from Opera, Opera ripped it off from the IE shell NetCaptor, NetCaptor ripped it off from InternetWorks, and InternetWorks probably ripped it off from the tab widget available in various windowing toolkits.
It gets really irritating hearing fan-boys who moan about how so-and-so ripped off feature xyz from their favorite company. Nearly all real innovations are put out in a proof-of-concept form which is utterly useless to joe-sixpack and latter "ripped off" by companies who deliver
usable products.
