Some monsters drop axes and other mandatory items, or:
In Lumbridge go to Bob's Axe Store and buy an axe from Bob.
In Lumbridge go to the General Store and buy a tinderbox, and some other items.
Go to Varrock, in the Sword Shop you can purchase a new sword, if you are just starting off, get a bronze longsword or iron maybe.
If you have
no money at all, and just need, lets say 100gp or something to buy some essentials and a sword, you can kill goblins. They have drops. Another way is to kill chickens, collect their feathers and sell the feathers to other players for 7-8gp each.
