Technically ROMs are not illegal as long as you own the game in the first place
That's the stupidiest and, at the same time, mightiest urban legend I ever seen on the internet.

It's utterly false.

I had this game for the SNES and a friend of mine had it for the PC. The SNES version was infinitely superior. But anywho, piracy is bad.

Yes but they are legal only if you've extracted them from your own cartridge, and not download them from the internet...

Bobbin Threadbare 14-09-2005 09:05 AM

I've wanted to do that. Anyone know how?

Man, You're Canadian. Why do you think we pay a surcharge on almost ALL recordable media?

Troop, are you aware

1.That you've just been talking about -----?

2.That you posted a ----- link?

3.That posting links to ----- is a violation of the board rules?

I am now.

First off - I thought he owned the game.

Second, the first link was to a site like this and plus it was a demo, nothing you can pin on me at that one :bleh: . For the second link - "I thought he owned the game."
That clear enough? Don't make me into a criminal all of a sudden. <_<

About ROM's you CAN take them if your copy is dead or smth. As I said, I thought he had the game, so I made a mistake. Geez.

You sure. Aww, c'mon. One of ya's has to know how to extract the files from a game cartridge.

troop18546 14-09-2005 06:36 PM

Never tried man, no idea.

That's exactly the point! Where else than on the internet you'd want to download them? ;)

Perhaps you missed the court ruling where a judge determined that it was legal to download so long as you are doing so as a means to back up a product you own. Uploading however is another story.
