BentleyVA and all his glorious contributions!

I procured a copy of No Greater Glory and proceeded to crack it. Is that something that can be uploaded or is that forbidden. The Oldwarez list here says the game itself is Abandonware, but I don't know about the crack itself.

Paco 19-02-2009 10:35 AM

Some Games on Abandonia is also cracked so its not a problem.

edit:

Lulu Jane told me of your talk in Chatbox.

- SimCity

Which Versions is it? the Original DOS or Windows?

- Pool of Radiance

[APPROVED] you means the Original one not the Ruins of Myth Drannor?

- Curse of the Azure Bonds

[APPROVED]

-
Champions of Krynn

The Game is already
ON SITE, but i dont know if its cracked or not. The Cracks or the Cracked Game could be uploaded.

- Secret of the Silver Blades

[APPROVED]

-
Eye of the Beholder

As for that we are still checking if the Game are still sold or not.

BentleyVA 19-02-2009 10:12 PM

Simcity the DOS version. The OG. I also have the Terrain editor although I would have to separate them since I have them both in the same folder.

BentleyVA 19-02-2009 10:23 PM

As for the original SSI Gold/Silver box games, I have them all and am slowly cracking them. I wouldn't touch Ruins of Myth Drannor with a 10-foot pole.

I also wonder, would it be possible to upload just the cracks for the games that are already here? I was reading some of the game threads last night and thought it was a pity that so many are enjoying these games, but running into the BS copy protection. No Greater Glory was unplayable without me cracking it.

Geezer 19-02-2009 11:15 PM

Cracking really isn't necessary when you can get the copy protection documents.

There are no manuals for No Greater Glory that I could find. Nor do I think there is going to be a scan for the red/black sheet for Simcity DOS. I could be wrong though.

Anyway, is there a single post or FAQ that lists everything that is needed for a submission. I made some screen caps for NGG but they came out in 640x200 res. though I swear I saw somewhere that they should be 320x200. I really want to contribute, but not sure exactly how. :(

Didn't mean to imply that cracking NGG was not warranted. I was referring to the other SSI games you were talking about. Hopefully this new thread category will solve some of the problems we have communicating what contributions can (or should) be made and how to go about it. As far as what is needed ... reviews are the thing in shortest supply. Games, screen shots, manual scans and box scans are all needed but it isn't an all or nothing proposition ... whatever you can provide. Be patient though, AB needs all the contributions it can get but sometimes it takes a long time to get your contributions on the site.

Have you been given FTP access?

No I haven't been given any access yet.

BentleyVA 20-02-2009 01:33 AM

I will be honest, cracking games gives me a warm and fuzzy. There is nothing like flinging my finger to twenty year old copy protections

Dave 20-02-2009 08:08 AM

I'm sending you FTP access by PM :)

How good are you at cracking? We need someone to break the No Respect CD protection as well... :whistling:

I haven't progressed to CD protects yet. I've only been going after manual lookups. Does anybody have an ISO for it?

BentleyVA 20-02-2009 10:38 PM

Game, Screenshots, and a boxshot I stole from Mobygames.com has been uploaded. I will start on the review in a sec. What's left?

EDIT: My bad, I forgot to create the game directory first and cannot move the files.

TotalAnarchy 21-02-2009 04:48 AM

I don't think the boxshot from moby will get approved, it has even the mobygames logo.

Sometimes, Gamespot has the boxshots scans in large sizes (and they never put their logo) like this one, for example: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/image_...php?pid=564786 But I don't know if they're willing to share. If you really want to be sure they don't mind read this: http://www.cnetnetworks.com/editoria...ag=permissions and use their permission request form.

Screenshots and Boxshots you took from somewhere will not be accepted. You create the Screenshots yourself and scans the Boxshots too.

Dave 21-02-2009 12:38 PM

Yes we can't accept material from Mobygames without a permission.
We can accept non-original material for rare games.
Let's say we prefer original material (in English if possible), it's clear that we can't trace if it's original or from somewhere else if there isn't a logo or a description.

BentleyVA 21-02-2009 01:35 PM

Screen shots are mine, box shot was not. Sorry

BentleyVA 22-02-2009 10:38 PM

Do i have to put a message here anytime I want to u/l something?

I want to upload Sargon 4 and also have the boxshots and screenshots. It is cracked so no need for the manual.

That would be appreciated. This threat helps the admins and updaters to keep track of what's going on at the file server. If you don't post your uploads here, there probably won't be noticed.

BentleyVA 22-02-2009 11:41 PM

OK

I have u/l Sargon 4, screen shots, box shots, and a quick reference sheet.

BentleyVA 23-02-2009 03:26 AM

I've also got Panzer Battles from SSG ready to u/l.

This one right?

That is abandoned :)

To speed up upload procedure we need a review, are you interested?

Wait for Admin/Crew approval next time, we need to check games' status first ;)

BentleyVA 23-02-2009 10:04 PM

That is the correct one for Panzer Battles.

Sorry about pulling the trigger on the u/l.

I do not write reviews well, If there is a template though I could muscle through it.

Well, my first suggestion is to look at our reviews on site.
Remeber to talk about good and bad points, what you like, your experiences. You have to rate it from 1 to 5.

Check this topic:
Tips for reviews.
In case your grammar isn't perfect we have the Grammar squad ready to improve your review ;)

BentleyVA 27-02-2009 12:38 AM

I never received word on if Simcity (version 1.07) for DOS is authorized for u/l. It is cracked too so no need for the red/black sheet.

Dave 28-02-2009 11:23 AM

The basic version is on site so it is ok to add:
http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/39...y+Classic.html

So this is a patched version if I understand correctly, isn't it?

BentleyVA 28-02-2009 04:39 PM

1 Attachment(s)
It is the original DOS version, not win95. And it is patched to remove the copy protection. The screenshot shows the difference between the AB existing version and the one I have. My doesn't have the retarded cow.

Paco 28-02-2009 05:00 PM

How big is the File? Maybe it can be added as an Extra (like it happened with Ufo Enemy Unknown which had DOS and Windows Version) or as seperate Review (like Heroes and Might and Magic).

And the red/black Sheet can also be added as an Extra, no matter if the Game is cracked or not.

BentleyVA 01-03-2009 01:02 AM

Not sure about the size but it is way less than 720K.

I don't have the original red/black sheet but I do have a copy of it that I was able to make on a commercial copier about 20 years ago. I don't know where it is though, hence my desire to crack it.

BentleyVA 02-03-2009 10:43 PM

My next cracked game I would like to add is:

Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?

http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/wh...armen-sandiego

Is that cool?

BTW, is it possible to edit the thread title to remove "no greater glory" since I have been added more than just that? Maybe something like "BentleyVA and all his glorious contributions" ;)

BentleyVA 03-03-2009 12:12 AM

Uploads all of it and if you find the Red/Black Sheet, then uploads that too. NMT2k2 has it too and maybe a new Review and Screenshots? You can talk it with him what to do.

This is very interesting since there are two versions of the game. The version on CD access is for windows and the version I have is for DOS. They are two completely different games, since the version I have came out in 1989 and the version they have came out in 1997.

No matter though, whatever you guys want is fine by me. I don't want to get anybody or this site in trouble.

BentleyVA 05-03-2009 01:59 AM

I have also u/l Simcity and and some screenshots. It is cracked so no need for copy protection.

hmm, you are right. then it is ok to add.

@David ?

Dave 05-03-2009 12:53 PM

They have this on CdAccess, it's the enhanced edition released on 1993:
CDAccess
MobyGames

The 1989 version is Abandoned :)
Sim City (1989)

Paco 05-03-2009 12:58 PM

@David and what about Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? DOS-Version? only the Windows-version is sold on CDAccess not the DOS-Version.

Dave 05-03-2009 01:20 PM

Cd version is sold on amazon, and as you said on CDAccess.

Where in time is Carmen Sandiego (1989)

The problem is that I don't have info about when the windows version was released, it's not listed here :mhh:
http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/...andiego-series

Paco 05-03-2009 01:26 PM

@David BentleyVA said it came out 1997 or? :mhh:

The quickest reference I can find may only be wikipedia, but I think it describes the different games enough. The version I have will never be confused with the Windows version. I'll u/l it tonight so anyone can check it out. It will take awhile for the screens though.

I cannot edit my post because the F***ing Ads by Google is in the way!!!! :<

NM, I hit enter a bunch of times. :)

Japo 10-03-2009 10:07 PM

Bentley, I see you've uploaded everything but the review (archive, screenshots and extras) for some games? Are you going to review them? ;) It could be done by someone else if you don't want to, but I thought you might be on it already.

BentleyVA 11-03-2009 12:08 AM

I hate to admit it but I did try and write two of the reviews. I got about a paragraph in on each and stopped for lack of direction. My first paragraphs basically amounted to "I like this game, give it a shot."

I really have no desire to write the reviews. I hope that doesn't stop my contributions from getting posted. :(

TotalAnarchy 11-03-2009 03:15 PM

That might delay the uploading of the game(s) for some time.

Japo 11-03-2009 07:45 PM

Maybe but don't worry, we'll get you some reviewers, many thanks for the great contribution. :OK:

BentleyVA 25-10-2009 01:06 AM

Civilization

I just u/l some new boxshots (front and back) of the original Civilization that came with 3.5 disks.

BentleyVA 02-05-2013 01:27 AM

Seriously just realized that one of my top three DOS games of all time is not here. Pool of Radiance should be here. I have numerous versions--original floppy and the cd of ALL of the Forgotten Realms Gold Box games. What do we need for this game to hold an exalted place on this site?

Japo 02-05-2013 04:25 PM

:OK: We need someone to review it

Japo 03-05-2013 10:13 PM

Hi Bentley, I've noticed that you've offered more than one game that are waiting for reviews.

Some months ago the crew agreed to the possibility of adding games without a review, with a big button for anyone to volunteer to write one. This way the game will be available and will probably get a review much sooner too. I've decided to roll this out now.

What I mean is that if you upload your archives I'll publish them. :)

If you can take screenshots for the games it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I'd take some token ones.

BentleyVA 05-05-2013 02:08 AM

Its been somewhere around four years since I played with the FTP. I think at least four of the games I put there are still waiting on reviews-No Greater Glory, Simcity (The original-not the one with the cow on the title screen)), Sargon 4, and Panzer Battles. I am fairly certain that they all have screenshots. I've started a review for Pool of Radiance but haven't gotten very far.

I'd love to know if Wizard's Crown has a Disk Image in its extras. It has a disk check protection that restricts resetting the game.

EDIT: Just realized that I saved the PM from four years ago for FTP access. Checking now for what I've put up.

EDIT: Looks like the user name and password are incorrect. :(

BentleyVA 05-05-2013 02:47 AM

I have been going through some of my older games and found some that might fit in here. Some that I can remember off hand are:

Get Medieval
Perfect General
The Bard's Tale Construction Set

Japo 05-05-2013 09:29 AM

If you want we can wait for your review of Pool of Radiance and publish something else. We'd love to have it and it's the original Gold Box game.

We changed the password, I've sent you the new one via PM. :) I can see the archives and screenshots that you say stored in our server, I'll start publishing when I have some more free time.

This is the situation we want to fix, that so many people submitted archives very long ago and we've been waiting for reviews forever and it just doesn't work. We actually have lots of archives and no way to sort through them.

However for this reason we can't publish them all just at once. What I'm going to do is to give priority to people who ask me. This Offers board is going to be the reference, in inverse chronological order. It's neither the most or the least fair way to proceed, it's just the easiest or only practical one. So you're first on the list :) (together with AbandoniaEddie). Still if you have more than a couple of games I'm not going to publish them at once, but spread them over a period. On the other hand when we get asked more often we'll probably also publish faster.

- Get Medieval: approved

- Perfect General: approved

- The Bard's Tale Construction Set: please make a request thread. We used to have the three games until GOG.com put them up for sale, so most likely the Construction Set will be approved, unless it's sold somewhere else, which is unlikely.
