Carmen Europe in EGA

Hopefully what follows will work:

Wow. After a lot of time I finally managed to get it going so thanks for your help.

For anyone else having difficulty what I put in was the identification of the graphic surrounded by the tags img and /img, each within a set of block brackets. The copied address at Photobucket had some extra formatting which initially blocked the graphic but removing the ?action-view&current= that was shown in it got everything OK.

Once again thanks to DarthHelmet86 for the help

DarthHelmet86 You will need to upload the picture to an online host. Something like Photobucket, then use the image tags to show it.

No, not smart enough to work out the format for displaying a graphic.

Yes, that works! Thank you very much!

Re question about running this in EGA it is one of those old games where you could put in a parameter to change the settings. So to make it run in EGA the start command is:
CARMEN EGA

This might get difficult under Windows/DOSBox so it's best to make up a batch file called GO.BAT which contains the above command and use that to start the game.

As with many of these old DOS games it can be rewarding to search through the program file to see if anything extra is available. I recall BATTLECHESS had a parameter called DUCKS but I can't remember how it changed the game. And to get sound on one of the Indiana Jones games you had to specifically put in A as a parameter to the starting command.

gumpy Is there two different versions of this game? A CGA and an EGA version? Or is there only one version of this game that supports both CGA and EGA?

Sebatianos Good question.

It's the size of the archive I uploaded. There is a difference though. From what I remember the size of the archive should indicate how big is the archive (for the download), so that might be the difference between the size and size on disk. I always put down the number of kb it takes up on the server not on disk.

Where did you see me get any EGA screenshots? Only the news picture has different colors, but I thought they just switched from one 4 color pallete to another. The intro wasn't really in EGA graphics (at least not what I saw), but I do know this game supported it. Maybe with some further DOSBox versions (I still use 0.71 - haven't switched to 0.72 yet).

Luchsen I have DOSBox versions 0.63 and 0.72 (just downloaded for Strike Squad ):
0.63 - only CGA
0.72 - intro EGA, rest CGA

Your newspic and titlescreen are EGA as we see. So you probably have 0.72 (or a little older version). 0.63 couldn't handle the whole EGA, 0.72 could handle it, but the switch from intro to game disrupts this somehow (the same goes for WinXP) - till now I can't say why. Under Win98 it runs in proper EGA for me.

Btw: Did the archive get larger (188 to 193KB)?

It has an EGA mode, but I bet Sebatianos didn't get it to work in DOSBox.

Your bet is correct. I just thought the archive I had was a CGA version with no EGA options (that EGA would be a different archive).

Can you enlighten me (and others) for the benefit of us all?
