I still play this game on my old 286m which is still working, but not in the best shape, but it can play the sound effects, and also that song in the title screen (Where Gorbachiov's face is). The russians sure knew how to use the PC Speaker perfectly. However, if you have those old .wav files, put it up. Everything's worth that is more than nothing. |

Hope it will be interesting. Man on the title screen is Mikhail Gorbachiov - the last leader of USSR. Perestroika - it's "rebuilding" in Russian lang. "Perestroika" is name of his economics reform. |

[edit] There is a way to actually hear the awesome sound effects, load the TOPPLER.DAT file into a program that can play .voc files (something from the time when the first Sound Blaster cards became available). I actually have some old .wav files, might be worth putting up here? |

Heh, laughing to myself, for all off you who don't know, the producers name is russian and that's a picture of gorbachev on the screenshot. Hmm wonder if it could have anything to do with the name? Actually it does, Perestroika in russian literally means "Rebuildment" Hope I helped clear the mystery of the name up P.S. Never actually played the game |

I remember the awesome soundeffects from this game, but now I can't get it to play them again. I tried fiddling with Dosbox settings, and also VDM, but I can't make it work. I'm sure there should be singing in the intro screen, and the ingame sounds should be way cooler too (when you die for example, "njup! njup! cha-cha-cha!). The only thing I can think of is that perhaps you need a COVOX to work (a little something we soldered together on a piece of paper and plugged into our LPT1 port back in the days). But I don't know how to emulate one. Any ideas? |

One of the first games on PC I`ve ever played, and that computer I played it on was in one of soviet comittees. You coulds make several hundreds of steps from that PC and see loading screen in reality (without head of Gorbachev, though). I`m pretty shure that government played Perestroika, as range of games in center of Moscow was much the same (sorry for my english). I liked this game, but it was hard for me and, being a kid, I understood almost nothing in all these democrats, bureaucrats and taxes. Alexei |

chainsoar | I've never played this game, but the name immediately reminded me of KGB, a game oh so close to my heart.

Doubler | Hmm, after asking around a bit, it seems we used to have the English version of this game (although I thought it different). We should have it lying around somewhere...
