Luchsen The palettes can be displayed in low and high intensity, resulting in a brightness difference.

Lantern Jaw Yeah, prior to my previous post I did a tiny bit of research on cga, that games can come in one of two colour palettes. Also it would make sense that Death Sword or Barbarian be in a green, red and brown colour palette because it seems to suit it better, the magenta and cyan scheme probably make it the campest looking Barbarian port.

...I should say it would be better and I would have no complaints if it were not so dark when it switches to "RGB" palette.

Strangest thing of all is that Another World does a similar thing; it switches to CGA in RGB during play only it is much brighter than the Death Sword RGB. Confusing.

Luchsen Perhaps that palette is intended, but isn't addressed initially because it seems the game is compiled into a Borland C++ file + START.COM? That also happens for compiled booters with data file + START.COM. DOSBox has problems at recognizing CGA modes/switches anyway.

The Fifth Horseman I have an idea as to what might be happening. None as to why it happens or how to prevent it.

Take a look here. Going by your description, it appears the game spontaneously switches palette 1 to palette 0 at some point.

Colour Change

So just to clarify that last point, the colour pallete changes from CMYK to RGB mid-game and doesn't switch back.

I'm on dosbox 0.73 under WinXP and the game is set to cga.

If anyone knows what's going on please tell.

Colour change

Every so often the game changes from purple/blue colours to green and red. What's up with that? Do I change the machine type in dosbox .conf?

Oddly the same happens in Another World.

Thanks

I'm thread necromancing,
You're not. See, the Games Discussion is all about discussing the games on the site, and due to its specific nature the term "thread necromancy" (or necroposting) does not exist in this area.
Well, that may be the case, but it can hardly be called topical to quote a post made ages ago.

But you'll notice I didn't let that stop me.

I gotta throw my praise in, this is a great game. Totally deserving of more than the crypt. Simple, elegant, with a one-hit-onr-kill decapitation move in there. What's not to loce? Okay, the CGA graphics, but hey, it's what the had at the time and they used them pretty good.
