Another guest *bump* I'm encountering a strange problem with my copy of Ultima 8 (from the Ultima Collection CD). Whenever I start the game, after I input my name, nothing happens. The mouse cursor is there, it's even capable of moving, but the screen doesn't budge and scroll over to the top where the Avatar is (i.e. next to campfire and that fisherman). I quicksaved with F7, quickloaded, *seemed* as though the problem is fixed i.e. it loads at campsite, BUT, the Avatar doesn't get up. Can't bring up the Journal either, except the exit hotkey Alt+X.

I wonder what's up with it?

FreeFreddy Well, then I can think of these problems being the case:
1. Your soundcard isn't set correctly in the install.exe of the game. Try playing without the sound first, if it helps experiment with the settings.
2. You don't have soundcard-drivers in Ms-Dos installed. You probably can play the game without the sound and music then.
3. You interrupted the uncompressing of the shapes.??? file, that begins after you first install the game and happens only one time. This could only be the case if you didn't download the game from this site, so be sure to do it and try out again.
4. During the download the archive was damaged in some way. Try to download again.

Woot?* You still use Windows 3.1?

Tom Henrik I am jealous...

I also want Win 3.11

Seriously, that version NEVER gave me any problems! The newer version even crashes sometimes when you open the Explorer! And with Win 3.11 he is the member that is best suited for playing these games, as he has PURE DOS. And his windows folder doesn't take up half his harddisk k:

FreeFreddy Did you start the game under Windows XP or Windows 98? Try playing it in DosBox - should be no problems there.
Get DosBox for free download here: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1
