In the download areas of the site there are some places where you can click on ads to sponsor the site.
But in the forums there aren't any, and most of the time this is where the "regular" members are hanging out.

So I think it would be a suggestion to have some type of discrete ads, perhaps on the main index screen, where you could click when you're mainly just waiting for someone else to post :)

It would be an easy way to help the site out, and still wouldn't clogg up the entire screen or be really annoying pop-ups.

Anyway, it's just a suggestion.

That's not a bad idea actually! I'll see if I can incorporate a small banner into the forum header! Thanks for the idea ;)

Hmmmm, I wouldn't mind that, it would be nice having something to look at when there are no new posts or something and it would get the site some more money.

There, do you think this is discreet enough? :)

Wonderfull idea! I always forget to click those adds, but now they will always be there to remember me: "Click me! Click me!"

Since nobody is complaining, we should add a flickering, busy Flash banner there! More annoyance more money!, people would love it! :ok:

I dislike the add. Feels like I'm being haunted by salesmen like this. The forum is nowhere near as active as the main site anyway so the amount of clicks will likely be much lower.

Adds are really bad. Nowaday, any adds can hide spywares or malwares which are easily "caught" by your computer if you are not carefull enough to install programs which block them.

Which usually lead people to install programs which block any add whatsoever anyways, so the point is kind of off...

The adds on this site are clean and harmless. And the add here isn't some kind of nasty pop-up, but a humble little box in the title-menu above. You want to contribute, you klick on the add whenever you feel the desire to do it.
So what's wrong with it?

Exactly. Without it the site probably wouldn't exist so it's a small price to pay. Plus I think it fills the space nicely.

Kosta: I think the double ad was better - I only see single ones now. Any way to customise the background with the gradient?

Kosta

Unfortunately the ads are not customizable enough to make a background gradient. And as for the double add - it didn't fit for the 800x600 people so I'm being considerate to them :)

@Picard: Its up there where you can barely see it so hopfeully it shouldn't bother you much. And trust me, covering $60 monthly for the server cost is NOT as easy as it may seem.... I need every click I can get, and this is more accessible for forum people for that needed daily click :)

I hate ads and pushy salespeople thoroughly, but this one's fine. Didn't even notice it until I read this thread, and if they're clean, without any spyware or tracker cookies or such, I'm glad to click it if it helps this place out.

One thing's funny though, Google ad's are usually context aware which means that they read what is one the page and then they display the ad's that fit in with the context. Well they seem to fail utterly on the forum. I think it's probably cause we all love going off topic so much :P

Who doesn't need industrial lubricant? I know I'll pick up a few galons.

The Enterprise needs lot of that stuff.

You should see Jean-Luc's bill when he has to pay maintenance costs.

It's by reading a particularly expensive bill he lost his hair.

I hope it isn't a normal thing to get bald, when you get a big bill. I have an apointment at the dentist on monday, and I have a feeling that I won't be able to pay the bill :( . If I got bald on top of that, it would completely ruin my day!

Thats monday, now is saturday. So, cher up, drink a cup, and kill another badguy, in whatever antique game you are playing! :ok: ;)

Only thing I have to say is that the ads are fine, but not all of them may be good. I have an Ad watch program running pretty well all the time and it chose to block the ad with "unique hats" in it.

FreeFreddy

Why that?

It seems it has a bad pop-up or something on it. =)

"Ideal Gifts for Birthdays

authentic italian jewel"

In this thread??? Who's talking of Birthdays?

@ aaberg

I don't pay my dentist. They get salary from the state.

Heh I wondered what all you guys were talking about. Then I remembered that I'm blocking ads with firefox. I tried on IE, and they are there. I feel bad that I'm not clicking on the ads. I used to, but now I've got firefox, I can block most ads, which I like.

It's nice how the ads are NOT overwealming. Just small and nice up in tha banner ;) Blending in!

I hate pop-ups. My computer is often really slow, and when maybe 5 popups come at the same time, the memory just can't handle it

Unknown Hero

I don't have nothing against pop-ups. Kosta, if you want put me pop-up every time I enter abandonia, if it will help you keep alive the site. I always forget to click on adds! :(
