Well for the past few days I have been having vague memories of this adventure game that my mom used to play years ago.
As far as I can recall, you're some guy who was whisked away by a goddess to help save people from an eruption on an island.
I also vaguely recall that the woman was a real actress and not a computer generated image and also that some of the items in the game looked egyptian.

This one has CGI characters, but does the rest ring the bell?

Its pretty close, but I have this sneaky feeling of that the game takes place in modern times.

Isis (http://www.mobygames.com/game/isis) or Mummy (http://www.mobygames.com/game/win3x/mummy-tomb-of-the-pharaoh), perhaps?
If neither of these, do you recall the approximate year in which you are certain your mother has played the game in question? That would give us a cut-off point to start from.

Setting:Egyptian (http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/setting-egyptian-/offset,100/so,1d/) not very useful here. Likewise, live-action cutscenes (http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/visual-technique-style-live-action-cutscenes)
There's fewer if we narrow it down to 1st person adventure for Win 3.x (http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/win3x/adventure/1st-person-perspective/x,60/offset,0/so,1d/list-games/) and for all other Windows versions (http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/windows/adventure/1st-person-perspective/x,60/offset,0/so,1d/list-games/).

Aha!
It has to be Isis!
I distinctly remember that cover.
