Hello,
This is an RTS game from the late '98. I remember playing the Demo from a magazine CD.
There were 3 guys that you could control. One of them had arrows, 2nd had magic and I don't remember about the third they wearing green, blue and red. The colors were very bright. You could explore dungeons. It had good graphics.
This is not Diablo for sure!
The name (I think) contains "h" and "x" . Something like heretic or hexen or something like that.
I don't remember much about it

It ran on Windows 98

FYI: RTS stands for Real Time Strategy. This one doesn't really look like it.

An RPG (not RTS) from 99 I remember was Darkstone (http://www.mobygames.com/game/darkstone), a diablo clone in 3D. Somewhat off from the description, but maybe memory is playing a trick on you.

Well technically, the first Hexen does indeed have three characters to choose from. Hexen II has four.

Except that, unless my memory really got out of whack, Hexen is a FPS and is not located in a dungeon.
There is a world of difference between a RTS and a FPS...

I know, but I thought it was too much of a coincidence not to mention it.

There is one game I remember which might fit the thread starter description... It is a game in which you have access to a mage, a knight and a rogue or an archer or something. You move around on a map and you can select quests and missions or the like too.
Never really played the game so I'm a little fuzzy... And I can't remember the name for the sake of anything you want. At first I thought it was Sword & Sorcery or something like that but I can't find a game which match this name. The name was definitely a combination of two things together.
Of course this is not helping much... :(

Wasn't that perchance Rage of Mages (http://www.mobygames.com/game/rage-of-mages)?

Is it maybe Nox (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/nox)? There is no archer class in it, however. But sounds a bit like it.

I would rather bet on Amulets & Armor (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/amulets-armor/screenshots), but it's not game I think about anyway... Hmm... %)

personally, I'm going to be very, very surprised if legioner returns and tells us it wasn't the previously mentioned Hexplore.
The Hexplore demo even has you controlling three characters (http://ia700807.us.archive.org/11/items/HexploreDemo/HexploreScreenshot.jpg) instead of the normal four, at least during some parts.
Of course, I'm not against more love being given to the other titles mentioned.

Yes Spectre, I thought about that name too. But the game I am thinking about is not first person in any way.
Now that it been mentioned, Nox could fit the description too. Good suggestion.

Found it! (http://www.mobygames.com/game/blaze-blade-eternal-quest/screenshots)
Err, I mean, I thought about Blaze & Blade all this time after your description, but couldn't pinpoint it exactly. :)
(BTW, anyone mentioned Throne of Darkness (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/throne-of-darkness/screenshots) already? I did then! :D

That's not the game I was thinking about but it looks like a nice RPG. :)

Sounds a bit like Lost Vikings, but they had no magic
