Hi all,

Back in the early '90s, my Grandad gave me a bunch of games and demos on a pile of floppy disks when my family got our first computer. One of the games was a shareware demo of a flight simulator, and all I remember about it was that it ran on DOS, you played from a first-person cockpit perspective, and the objective of the demo was to land on some sort of tower or something(the graphics were very primitive). I also remember it had a looping gameplay demo when you started it up, and from that I seem to remember that the plane was blue, with one set of wings; not a biplane, basically.

I can't actually recall ever knowing the name of this thing; If memory serves, the .exe that started the game was called something generic like "flight.exe" or something along those lines, and I'm starting to worry that I'll never find this game again. Anyone have the faintest clue what game I'm on about?

EDIT:

I just got hit by a flash memory of talking off from an aircraft carrier as well! I don't actually remember it being a combat sim, but for how reliable my memories are of this game it might well have been.

Some guesses:

Jetfighter II?
Not a blue plane, but has also carrier take off /landings
http://www.mobygames.com/game/jetfighter-ii-advanced-tactical-fighter

Corncob 3D?
No carriers there, but plane in (looping) opening sequence is a blue corsair.
And the airstrip with control tower always is your start/end point.

Both could be played from floppy.

Neither of those, unfortunately. The reason I'm so fascinated with this game is that I don't remember there being any identifying splash screens or menus at all, nor any in game directions (like in Corncob 3D, where you are given a mission objective and location).

Your description, including the tower thing (although I don't think you need to land on it) and the aircraft carrier, reminded me of Evasive Action (http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/evasive-action), which indeed has a playable demo.

If it's not it, you can take a look at what other DOS combat flight simulators that had playable demo or shareware versions I managed to find:

Thanks, but no, not Evasive Action. I took a look at the link you provided, as well as Moby Games, and have been unable to find it. Damn, if only I could go back in time and get those floppys...

Have you checked the Microsoft Flight Simulator (http://www.mobygames.com/game/microsoft-flight-simulator) series?

The carrier and the looping demo remind me of the older Jetfighter version:

The description reminded me of Flight Action (https://www.mobygames.com/game/flight-action) somewhat.
