What do you think the best executed and well done remake of all time would be. For me it would definately have to be Pacman Jr. (This was done in DarkBASIC, and you can download it as freeware on www.darkbasic.com, and in the showcase, retrogames!)

King's Quest 2, by AGD Interactive, formerly Tierra. It turned a lifeless "hunt down objects and solve the puzzle" game into a journey with a deep, rich plot.

I'm not familiar with this. What relationship does it bear to King's Quest 2, from the Sierra folks?

It uses the same structure, setting and characters. If you mean formal connection... Well, the identity of the programmers is secret (AGD stands for Anonymous Game Developers) but I don't think anyone from Sierra has anything to do with it. Of course later on it could be revealed that one of the AGDs is Ken Williams. LOL

It's an update that uses the Adventure Game Studio. Get it at http://www.agdinteractive.com/

They're updating Quest for Glory 2 as well. I've been waiting for it for a long time.

I worked on xenocide before I moved to secondary school. Then homework took up the xenocide time...

Isn't xenocide taking a bit too long to get finished, huh? I read about it on Arky's X-COM page. Downloaded some of their sample videos as well! All those X-COM memories coming back now... Can't wait to see it done!
Think the best remake is new Sam'n'Max! :D :D :D
Enough joking, guess it would be Dune 2000! i like C&C and Red Alert series as well!

I'd say the new Pirates! game is definitely the best remake, but I'd put the AGD King's Quest 2 remake at second. I always loved King's Quest, but the first couple certainly didn't have much plot. The remake changes that completely.

Hmm, it says on the AGS website, that AGS was created by Chris Jones. Does anybody know if this is Chris "Tex Murphy" Jones?

Which brings me back on topic; I liked Overseer. I don't know if I think it's the greatest remake ever, but it's pretty damn good.

*edit*

Never mind. It seems it's a different Chris Jones.

What about: The Great Escape? Or don't you even know this is a remake...

This is going to bring a few results of "it sucks badly" but I'll go ahead and say it...

Doom 3 in my opinion is the best remake. For those of you who don't know, they were taking the original Doom, and simply changing it in a few ways, i.e. graphics new monsters, a few new weapons, cinematics. That was probably it.

So in true spirit it is actually a remake. It also explains why the game goes back to old roots of just shooting & gunning.

Yeah, even though it's not my kind of game it seems like a great remake of Doom. I've only played the demo though.
