Several years ago I downloaded a video "game" concerning a mid 1980's nuclear war between the USA and USSR. The game was very realistic and detailed. The GUI was primitive but sufficient. The game had no sound effects or music.
The game included thousands of ICBMs, bombers, nuclear subs, SAMs, cities, etc. It was a tactical real-time strategy game. The GUI included a map of the northern hemisphere representing NATO and Warsaw pact nations. Missile trajectories may have been graphed when they were launched like in DEFCON (much more recent/unrealistic game).
This game was enthralling and I remember sitting and playing for hours trying to bring the Soviets to their knees. It might have been declassified military intelligence software. I cannot find a hint of it on search engines. I believe I picked it up at alt.bin.old-games on USENET six or seven years ago.
Perhaps someone on this forum has a title or even a file link for this "game"? If so I think it should be included on Abandonia.com's list with the manual! Thank you for your time.
