I think someone should try to get the music from the emerald cave for abandonia frequency......that was my favorite tune from the whole game! I was disappointed when I saw that it wasn't there...:oh:

Hi everyone. :) I picked up the Kyrandia collection a long time ago but an even LONGER time ago, I had the original release. These are some of my fave old games of all time.

There are 2 parts in this game (Kyrandia I) where, in Brandon's TEXT speech, he gets very raunchy!! Does anyone remember this but me?? I don't want to say where the spots are exactly because I don't want to risk any spoilers. But please, if anyone wants to know where the sections are, send me an email or message. I tried to find them in the collection version of the game but I can't recreate the scenes, so I need help from anyone who has a truly old version of the game.

Thanks!!!

I'm getting error messages when trying to download any of the Kyrandia games - is anyone else having trouble? It appears that the links may be broken.

Server is down. I don't think any of the game links are working. :(

The zipped file that I downloaded won't work for some reason. Says that certain files can't be found. Also says it needs a cd to run. Are there any posts about problems with this game? If so, can you point me in the right direction?

Also, Kyrandia 2 only lets me get to the Dark Cavern where there is supposed to be some kind of skull with muti-colored teeth that need to be played in a sequence. I can go in the room but its totally black on that screen, with no apparent switches or anything clickable. All I can see is my character and the surrounding frame of the game.

Please give me a suggestion, I used to love playing these games.

Well I for my part never encountered any problems with the two games playing through DosBox. Maybe if he plays them in ScummVM that's the source of problems.

La solucion es el "ScummVm" Bajalo.
The solution is "ScummVm" Download it.

Greetings!

I have the orginal cd for all three kyrandia games. I was hoping to install them via dosbox, however when I attempt to do so I get an error message. "Could not not make destination directory" or some such. I attempted to make the directory manually and then give the path to the installer, but got the same message. Could anyone lend me a hand?

Thank you to Frodo, endroi, and Phantom.

Will this program also allow me to use the cd audio? That's really the only reason I ask, otherwise I would just dl it from here and play.

I grew up playing the floppy version, but now I'm trying to play the CD version on Dosbox, but the speech is too quiet and gets drowned out by the music. Is there a way to adjust that? I use D-Fend Reloaded, and I've messed with the volume sliders, but it didn't help. I want the speech to be louder but the music to stay the same volume.

I've tried ScummVM. The speech is a lot better, but the music doesn't sound emulated as good.

Actually, after messing with the sound options in Dosbox, I'm thinking the music through MT-32 emulation may be too loud.

*Edit* Finally fixed it after messing with settings for a few hours and googling for solutions. It seems I needed to uncheck "Use Mixer" or in otherwords, sbmixer=false, which doesn't make sense to me, but oh well.

It seems I needed to uncheck "Use Mixer" or in otherwords, sbmixer=false, which doesn't make sense to me, but oh well.
It actually makes perfect sense. Back in the days of Ms-Dos sound cards used drivers to load and a program to adjust the volume of the various outputs of the card in Dos, which worked for each game but also could be adjusted additionally in games that supported their own volume adjustment, which often resulted in a very complex chaos of volume settings needed to be adjusted.
Now I guess DosBox has a hidden mixer volume setting that's ran when the program start, virtually emulating "a soundcard" for compatibility reasons with games. Which is causing Legend of Kyrandia to produce the quiet sound.

One additional important note - if you're using the Roland MT-32 music setting, without having an actual MT-32 hardware module being attached, or without a special emulation program running, the music will not sound like real MT-32 music was meant to sound at all. It would at best sound a bit different from a General MIDI setting and probably a bit messed up and strange at times, since DosBox doesn't emulate MT-32 by itself. Same goes for Roland Sound Canvas setting (supported in Legend of Kyrandia 2: Hand of Fate).

When trying to load the game with DOSBox I always end up with this error "unable to load font 8FAT.FNT Reinstall program." I followed the correct commands, yet I'm still encountering this same error. I've tried placing the kyracd folder on c: and d:, but it hasn't resolved the issue. What would cause this error? I'm running windows 7 x64 and I'm using a fresh install of DOSBox (I haven't configured it in any way).

Are you following the instructions?
In order to run the game in DOSBox, you'll need to input the following commands in order:
mount d: c:/kyracd/cd -t cdrom
mount c: c:/kyracd/
c:
Once these commands are imputted, just type in kyracd.bat, hit enter, and enjoy the game!

oceanlife

Are you following the instructions?

Yeah, after the first command it shows Drive D is mounted as CDRom c:/kyracd/cd\ and then after that is says c:/kyracd/ doesn't exist.

How do you maximize the screen?
Press CTRL+Enter to enter full screen or to go back to windowed mode. You should also edit DosBox configuration and change the following option like this - fullresolution=original - under [sdl], just at the beginning, and aspect=true under [render] for best results.

ALT+ENTER in some of the versions of Windows. :)

For future reference, this problem occurs in two situations:
1. You have not mounted the CD subdirectory of the game directory
2. You have mounted the CD subdirectory of the game directory without using the -t cdrom switch

So, I keep having the same problem as Oceanlife..
I have mounted my cd subdirectory properly, (I think) but I have NO IDEA what a -t cdrom switch is, or how to achieve it. And yes, I've searched the site. For 3 days, actually, trying to get this to work. I am allllmost to the point of saying "F this" and just reading a book. (My usual passtime)
So please help a future-possibal gamer!!!

A switch (which may be called a flag, an option or an argument) is nothing more than an extra element you type in after the rest of the command
What I meant is that you're either enteringmount d: c:/kyracd/cd
mount c: c:/kyracd/or mount c: c:/kyracd/when what you're supposed to enter ismount d: c:/kyracd/cd -t cdrom
mount c: c:/kyracd/(obviously C:/kyracd may be whatever other directory you unpacked the game to)

why not try using SCUMMVM? it should be easier to setup. just make sure all the necessary data files are in one folder and point scummvm to it.

and the last time i checked, it's already fully beatable in scummvm

Kiss this one goodbye, now available on GOG.

Isn't the point of this site to hold onto games until they become legally available again? Personally I'm happy it is on GOG.

This game is really cool. The environment is beautiful and cheerful giving a magical and fantastic impression. Hello Microprose!

You get to meet various wizards and witches during the game. And learn new skills.

One of the comic scenes is when you transform into a sphere of energy (for transport purposes primarily crossing abysses, avoiding monsters, etc.) and you will see the old magician. The funny thing is that he recognizes you even in this way!

The other comic scene is when in the end, the prince tells the “old man” to stop pushing him, but is not attended to! :hihihi:

Now one detail that bothered me was the labyrinth. When there was no Walkthrough, you even had to draw the map to avoid monsters and find the way out. :hypno:
